β β β β β βVery helpful and attentive staff - we got a car at a great price which has transformed our Italian holiday adventure!β was my original review, so Iβm sad to be updating this and knocking those 5 stars down to 2 after a very unpleasant post-hire experience. We were suddenly charged four times the amount of the entire hire cost for random fees, and though this has been rectified it was a gruelling few months of proving that we had not agreed to any of the additional costs that we were hit with.

β β β β β We hired a car from here for two weeks in Italy. The pick up was effortless from a very helpful agent. (We had arranged our own insurance so declined the liability cover offered but that didnβt create any problems.) The car (Fiat 500) was immaculate inside and out. We returned half a day earlier than planned and again this was really easy, just dropped off and they gave us the full receipt within five minutes - great service.

β β β β β Very nice and helpful guy at reception. Car choices is limited but service and help from the person desk on 24th and 27th September 2021 was great. I had many average or bad experiences with renting cars but this one was really good.

β β β β β Extra 150β¬ charge from me for the small scratch 0.5cm x 0.5cm, even I have default insurance which should cover this. The service man almost dont speak on English. I suggest you to avoid this service - my worst experience!!! Very bad ending of my vacation.

β β β β β Criminals! 1st you sign the rental documents, 2nd you get the scratched car, 3rd they dont give back the docs for sign the damages, 4. one of employeers sign to your version the damage, 5. you use the car and go back, 6. after 2 weeks you get email: pay xxxx euros, because you scratched the car!

β β β β β 1.5 hours standing in line. The other suppliers are fully staffed, Hertz has one person. I will never use Hertz again. Go with Europcar or Avis instead.

β β β β β Have rented in Italy many times so know what trashy cars to expect but decided to book (as Hertz gold customer) this year to try and get a nicer vacation rental. Nope, was a wreck with dents and scratches everywhere. Not washed well, inside smelled and no surprise that the rental charges were some extras when I returned and had to go to counter to get them cancelled off (which they did with no argument). I expect more from Hertz (I rent usually for business in other countries) and a car in this state with 88K Km on the clock would have been retired long ago. Why do Italian car rental companies think these vehicles are acceptable to offer? I would say no better or worse than other Italian rental companies, but I have had better cars for sure!

β β β β β Charging deposit of 200β¬ which is totally fine with me, but not returning it fully or partially with a final invoice more than 48 hours after the return of the car is unacceptable.
I don't expect the deposit to show up on my account, but rather a final invoice, as promised.
The employee was great at informing about extra insurances, but failed to inform about re-fueling/car return policy.
Also, not offering to review the returned car with the customer is very sketchy. I am just supposed to trust the employee to review the car without me and while still having the full deposit reservered on my card, and I left the country.
When contacting customer service, I am informed I will get an in answer 3-5 business days.
No wonder, Hertz is a failing company. Nobody would want to use the company's services more than once.
Edit: Received deposit back a few days after with no invoice. They deducted missing gas which is completely fair. Can't complain too much but are not too impressed either
