Awful customer service, poor quality vehicles, and sneaky extra charges. The worst car hire firm I have ever used.

I have never had a worse car rental experience. We rented a car in December 2018 while our car was in the shop following a break-in. The people at the desk were nice when we picked up the car but the people who "helped" us in the lot were unbelievably rude and condescending. When we returned the car, we were charged for returning the car "late" even though the lease agency extended the rental. We brought the car back completely full, which the person who checked our car in noted on our paperwork. We were charged, after the fact, for a fuel service so we could bring our car back empty. We brought it back completely full so we paid over twice as much for that fuel with their charge. We were told on the phone, now a month and a half later, that we need to submit our fuel receipt which we do not have. We were told we could send the credit card statement, which we did, and then we were told, again, that we must provide a physical receipt. We live in the USA and are not going to have any way to provide that information. I would have rather not gone through our lease company and paid for a rental car out of pocket than dealt with the completely unprofessional team at Avis.

Stay away from this Avis/Budget Car Rental in Ciampino! I rent cars for 20 years and never had such a rip off! I rented a car in December 2018 with Avis/Budget and got a nice Smart vehicle for 10 days. Upon return an employee made me notice that the car had a scratch almost invisible to an human eye of.. 4 cm like any rental car in the world always have and nobody ever would notice! Despite my complaints that I did not do it and that rental cars always have minor scratches and nobody cares to notice/report them, I was charged 200 EUR for it! A real scandal which I reported to Budget/Avis to no avail. Shameful to scam customers this way! This ended my long relationship with this company. I do not know what happened to them. They used to be n.1 and are now dedicated to scam customers out of minor scratches!

WORST Avis location EVER. No phone service - the single employee confirmed it doesn't work. No email mailbox. We tried to contact them several different ways thru international customer service, but they were no help. After we made our reservation, we needed to make a change because the airline changed our flights. This office rented our reserved car to a different customer. We had no way of making changes because AVIS does not understand what customer service is. I am leaving Avis. Horrible

Edit: To give them credit, the social media team came through and handled this how it should have been handled in the first place IMO. The original review is below because I am still disappointed about how this local agency handled the situation (and also the original support experience) DO NOT rent from Avis! and if you do, DO NOT trust the agent! Make sure that there are no charges on the contract no matter what the agent tells you. They sneaked a prepaid petrol tank on our contract, and when we asked on site why it's there, they told us it's only a deposit and that we'll pay only if there's missing petrol (which seemed fair). At the end they charged the full amount, even though we returned the car with 7/8. Customer service said that since it's on the contract they don't care. Because if you prepay for petrol, what you do is to return it as full as you can. But I guess it's not a problem for Avis to make customers feel that they've been tricked and they don't care if people never rent from them again. I guess it's a lesson that could have cost more than 100 euros. Avis may be an American company but their customer service is far from what I'd expect from one.

I was frauded of 400€. They charged us damages without any prior communication. They just appeared on our credit card. We did not damage the vehicle and there was no way to prove or disprove. This is very serious and even head office was un satisfactory in dealing with the problem. We also had problems with the petrol as others. They are definitely out there to fraud customers.

Extremely BAD service. As I called to cancel my booking, they confirmed my cancellation. After 1 day I called again, I was worried about not receiving any confirmation by email. They said I shouldn't worry, all phone calls are recorded. The day of the pick-up they charge me the total amount of the booking. I called for explanations, they just said I never canceled my booking and they won't give me any refund. I lost 105€ because of their internal failures. WORST service ever received. Reservation number: 19489415IT1 Pick-up date: 21/12/21 (They have already blocked my email and removed former reviews. They do everything to hide their true face.)
