β β β β β I booked online a small car (fiat 500) for 79.38 euro.
When I arrived in Italy, at the counter the worker insisted on upgrading my booking. "Only with 8 euros you'll have a Fiat 500 Convertible"- he repeatedly said. After a while I was changing my mind, hence 8 euro is not that much. So I asked a few times: "Are you sure that at the total will be added only the 8 euro for the whole trip? No extra fees? Only 88 euro" He said that for sure there are no extra fees.
He told me to sign on a tablet. I asked to see a paper document, but he said that it will be sent b mail only. He told me that there is a difference that will be retained up to a total of 283.09 for assurance for the fuel and for the car, but it will be returned after I bring back the car. He rapidly went forward on the tablet underlining, for me not to be able to read all, and focusing on other things, except money. Being tired, I didn't realized that, and I signed.
I went at the parking lot, a guy gave me the car, and I asked to let me check it first. I took picture of all the scratches and damaged places and I asked them to show me the paper with the car, to see if all of them ware noted. The guy told me to check on email. What if my phone would've ran out of battery? Really? No printed document? At least he had to have the papers on a phone or tablet. So, I checked the email and the biggest damage of the car, under the door wasn't noted. They said "Sorry, we didn't noticed!" Really? It was big!
So they made a paper to note them all, and I left.
After I returned from the vacation to the airport to give the car back, a guy made the check, all was ok. He said that I have to pay 220 euro, because they will return back to me only 55.51 euro for the fuel. I was shocked! I told him that is impossible. He said that he understands that I was deceived, that many clients have been, but there is nothing he can do.
At the counter I told the lady that works there everything, and she said that nothing can be done. By the way, he witnessed her colleague that day when I got scammed. I asked to talk to a manager, nobody else was available. I went to police, and they said that is a common scam in Bari airport with this rental place, but they can't do nothing. only with a lawyer in court.
So I almost lost the flight, and missed the check in because of them. I missed the big baggage check in. I had to throw all my bottles and other things that couldn't pass on boarding... A disaster!

β β β β β SEVERAL SCAMS TO BE AWARE OF. READ THIS WHOLE REVIEW: We rented a car from this Avis after reading terrible reviews for Budget and then come to find they are the same company. I rented a car for me, my husband and our 3 year daughter to explore the Puglia area for 4 days through Orbitz. First scam they tell you the insurance you buy from AIG through orbitz won't cover everything but then sell you their own AIG insurance. When picking the car up I asked the agent Ida if we wanted to rent the car for one more day would we be able to extend and she said yes just call the number on your contract. they only let you see the part of the contract with the price on a small screen then send you several pages on email after you have signed it. in the contract it says that you had agreed to pay in dollars not Euros for an extra 10% fee which they charged me even though I never agreed to pay in dollars and my receipt says euros on it. Next scam I call them nonstop to extend the car for one day and 5 hours. I had a tour by boat booked at 2pm and could not get in touch with them. Orbitz even called their headquarters in Mexico who could not even get a hold of them so we drove 2 hours just to ask for the extension. When we asked mind you 4 days was 600 dollars with their BS insurance she said it would be 1050 total so 450 dollars more for a day and a half. I told her she must be mistaken and somehow it came down to 800 but still I said thats crazy. She told me there was more demand even though it was getting closer to october where there is less demand so I went on orbitz and found the exact same deal for 30 dollars and it said I could book it for 12pm and it was 11:30 am and Ida says of course you could book through them but we can't give you the car until 2pm which is when my boat excursion was that we already paid for 1.5 hours away. We ended up agreeing on 600 euro and I was charged an extra 50 see scam above and Ida admitted they don't answer the phone so I had to drag my 3 year old there and waste half my day to be ripped off for extending another day. I honestly don't know how these people sleep at night and I will be posting this complaint all over the place to warn poor future souls. My friend said Europcar was decent if you need an alternative and honestly once they pile on all the extras its the same price.

β β β β β Opposite to the most review I would rate this car rental as good. Firstly I would address the comments concerning long queues. You should count with waiting time up to one hour, but this is actually fast. When I arrived at the rental office I got the queue number 42, while number 09 was called. I spent about one hour waiting, which makes 33 customers in one hour or two minutes for a customer, what actually is not long. The staff at the counter was polite and friendly enough. The only reason I do not rate the service with five stars is some communicational problems in English. None of extra insurance/service was foisted on me, although I was politely informed about the availability of extra full-coverage insurance and upgrades. Pay attention you will be charged a "fuel deposit" of about 80 Euro which is an approximate sum of money needed to refuel the whole tank. If you return the car fully tanked the deposit will be returned. Be sure to save all the tanking receipts, as you can be asked to present them upon the return of car. The return of the car was not problematic as well. So I would assess the rating as price-quality adequate.

β β β β β Took 1.5 hours to collect car due to severe shortage of staff. Forced to sign contract before you when check car, then all aspects of checking the car becomes your responsibility and you'll struggle to even find a staff member to amend your ALREADY SIGNED contract for existing scratches, they do this on purpose to push all responsibility onto you. Upon returning the car we were told the door lock had been fiddled with and we had to pay β¬300 for this, we never used the lock as always used the remote, absolute scam that they expect the customer to check the lock they are never going to use before taking the car away, when their representative has walked off after a few seconds as he's so busy and not demonstrated the lock at all, but then as soon as we return the car they immediately check the lock and blame us, even though it could have been caused by any customer before us as clearly they were too busy to check anything when we picked the car up. We are certain the lock was not tampered with while we had it, it was parked off road securely almost the entire time. Absolute scam and terrible service, they are set up purely to protect themselves and push all responsibility onto the customer and to cover for their staffs lack of checking returned cars when they are too busy. If you have to use them refuse to sign the contract until you have checked all aspects of the car to an impossible level such as the key hole you will never use and things like the spare tyre, as all of this they will push onto you despite when any damage was caused.

β β β β β I rented a car for a week (and no for a cheap prices). The car had damages in the front and in the back and around 34.000 kilometres. I had never received a car in that condition before, but for the sake of the time I took the car. Also the car had the cover to close the suitcase of the car broke (was a station car, Fiat Tipo). So anyone could see my luggages at the back of the car when I was travelling from one place to another and that is annoying if you want to stop in any place.
Then, after 30 minutes driving, the alert of oil engine turned on, because the car had not enough oil engine. Then I called and after a long time waiting, they told me that I can buy engine oil and they will refund me. So I did it. However, the same alert turn on a couples of days more, so I was worried again.
Finally, I returned the car an hour and a half later and despite all the inconveniences that I suffered with the car, they charged me around 68 euros more, for the "extra day", with a "discount" of 10 euros.
The final amount that I paid for the lease was 570 euros.
I don't like to make complaints but I felt that the company didn't care about the customer's experience.

β β β β β First of all, I was said that I didnβt have an insurance in spite of the fact that it had been paid. Secondly, I was offered to take a car that was lower class (Ford Focus) or pay extra 35 euro per day for another (Audi 4), that I assume is lower or the same class. I had booked VW T-cross
I believe that itβs hot there but it doesnβt mean that the front staff should be rude with costumers.
I asked to prolong the time of booking but the person who I spoke with refused no matter it was possible to book it again on their site

β β β β β I rented the car in Napoli and dropped it off in Bari airport. Focusing on that, the Whole process was fast and the person was very friendly. Received the deposit back instantly and they show you the transaction which will be emailed after you drop off.
Had a B class Volkswagen Up. Surprisingly great car (was also new, 16k km)

β β β β β A very negative experience. Please avoid this company, if possible.
They use pressure tactics to get you to purchase more insurance.I had purchased insurance through Rental cars while hiring a car, they said that this would not cover us and we would need to pay up to 1000 EUR for an every little scratch. So we said fine, we take extra as offered 16 EUR per day (10 days). We had to pay 305 EUR more, it was told us it's incl. deposit. What a surprise, there is no deposit mentioned on the paper they handed over. Instead of that, we found they claimed we paid less money during booking, that is stated on our contract with rental cars!! Scammers! I'm really afraid what is awaiting us during return.
Btw the car we received is full of scratches, dents and damages.
