★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Quello che vediamo oggi è la rielaborazione fatta secondo i gusti dell'epoca, da Michelangelo Buonarroti e successivamente da Giacomo della Porta. Il palazzo originale risaliva al XII secolo ed è probabilmente il municipio più antico al mondo.
Inaugurato nel 1144 ospitava il "Senatore", cioè il responsabile della giustizia e dei diritti dei cittadini.
Successivamente ai due architetti citati, Martino Longhi il vecchio, rimpiazzo' l'antica torre quattrocentesca con l'attuale torre campanaria.
Attualmente continua ad essere la sede del Comune di Roma.
What we see today is the reworking made according to the tastes of the time, by Michelangelo Buonarroti and later by Giacomo della Porta. The original palace dates back to the 12th century and is probably the oldest town hall in the world.
Inaugurated in 1144, it housed the "Senator", that is the person in charge of justice and citizens' rights.
Subsequently to the two architects mentioned, Martino Longhi the elder, he replaced the ancient fifteenth-century tower with the current bell tower.
Currently it continues to be the seat of the Municipality of Rome.
