... this church in Portovenere which is located right on the coast is dedicated to San Lorenzo !! ... the facade is presented with the alternation of black and white bands and above the portal a lunette depicting the martyrdom of the Saint !!! .... the building is clearly in Romanesque style and inside it has three naves !!! ... and there are important works of art !!! ... in the left aisle you can see the cedar trunk from Lebanon that arrived in Porto Venere in 1204 ... it is said from the sea !!! ... and in a cleverly carved and perfectly sealed cavity a priceless sacred treasure ... including a golden cross with gems that it was believed to be carried by the Emperor Constantine ... but in particular in the trunk was hidden a colored parchment depicting the Madonna with Child and two saints in prayer !!! ... this is the White Madonna that today can be seen at the bottom of the nave right of the Church in a white marble frame ... and which is celebrated on 17 August with an evocative nocturnal function ... fr hundreds of torches and lights in the ancient village and on the boats !!! ... to see absolutely !!! ...

β β β β β This is absolutely one of the most beautiful place I've seen in Italy. It's just magic. It's an incredible example of how constructions should be integrated with the sorranding environment. Everything is in harmony and perfectly balanced. You must see it!
