★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sublime atmosphere and magnificent architecture. A major catholic church completed in1667 to reunite the churches of Santa Maria in Campitelli and Santa Maria in Portico. A miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, Santa Maria in Portico, dating back from the XII century, is guarded in this Church. The church was built after the liberation of Rome from the terribile plague epidemic which ended in 1656. The church was built in a baroque style and it features several paintings of baroque painters
