★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Palazzo Brentani, per esteso Palazzo Brentani Greppi, è un palazzo storico situato nel centro di Milano, in via Manzoni n. 6. Il palazzo è conosciuto anche con il nome di Ca' Brentana, per via di un sonetto dedicato da Carlo Porta al palazzo.L'aspetto odierno del palazzo, piuttosto semplice, è dovuto ad una ristrutturazione di Luigi Canonica del 1829. La facciata, divisa da cornici in tre fasce, è ornata tra il primo e il secondo piano da caratteristici medaglioni neoclassici rappresentanti illustri uomini italiani come Alessandro Volta o Leonardo da Vinci. Il portone è sormontato dal balcone al primo piano, d'obbligo nei palazzi signorili situati in grandi vie per assistere a sfilate e processioni.
Il 4 agosto 1848 il palazzo fu al centro del tentato assassinio di Carlo Alberto. Il Re di Sardegna, reduce dalla battaglia di Custoza da cui uscì sconfitto, sportosi sul balcone del palazzo per placare una folla che si era radunata lì sotto per protestare contro l'imminente armistizio con l'esercito austriaco, fu di poco mancato da un colpo di fucile.
Il palazzo, dopo un ultimo restauro compiuto nel 1935 da Giuseppe De Finetti, ospita attualmente le Gallerie di Piazza Scala.
Palazzo Brentani, in full Palazzo Brentani Greppi, is a historic building located in the center of Milan, in via Manzoni n. 6. The palace is also known by the name of Ca 'Brentana, due to a sonnet dedicated by Carlo Porta to the palace. The current appearance of the palace, rather simple, is due to a renovation by Luigi Canonica in 1829. The facade , divided by frames into three bands, it is decorated between the first and second floors by characteristic neoclassical medallions representing illustrious Italian men such as Alessandro Volta or Leonardo da Vinci. The door is surmounted by the balcony on the first floor, a must in the stately palaces located in large streets to watch parades and processions.
On 4 August 1848 the palace was at the center of the attempted assassination of Carlo Alberto. The King of Sardinia, fresh from the battle of Custoza from which he came out defeated, sporting on the balcony of the palace to appease a crowd that had gathered below to protest against the imminent armistice with the Austrian army, was just missed by a blow of rifle.
The building, after a last restoration carried out in 1935 by Giuseppe De Finetti, currently houses the Galleries of Piazza Scala.
