★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This monument stands in tribute to Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian independence hero and one of the Italians considered the “Father of the Fatherland”.
The monument takes the form of a larger than life equestrian statue of Garibaldi atop a stepped stone pedestal. Flanking the pedestal are two allegorical figures, on the east side is the female personification of Freedom putting her the sword back into its sheath after mortally wounding the tyrannical tiger, and on the right side is another female personification, of Revolution accompanied by a roaring lion.
