β β β β β The food is just normal. The price is not exactly high but if you consider the ratio of quality and price then it's pretty pricy. The cover (bread) is worse than what we got in the supermarket. The spaghetti is good but that's the average quality in Italy. The meat plate is just okay. The decoration might be the most special thing for La Talpa. But if you are already here, I believe you have taken tons of the photos with "Matera" style architecture. Actually, my girl friend and I stayed in Matera for two nights. We tried this restaurant and the other one near by. The other one is definitely better. We could have decided to have dinner in the other restaurant for two dinners, but eventually we decided to try La Talpa just because we wanted have different experience in Matera. I was REALLY regret for our choice and deciding to dine in here in La Talpa. Please consider other restaurant around with Google rating higher than 4.2. It's absolutely a good index. Btw, this is first post that I posted on google review, so you may think of how disappointed I was.

β β β β β You are not a customer : you are a wallet !
Nice food but clearly the management is more preoccupied by having as many customers as possible ... once you are sat you just have to wait ... especially if you are not Italian because they have 5 waiters dealing with about 80 people. Food is good ... service is okay ... management is just making a lot of money and you are not a customer... you are a wallet on legs. Still ... okay for the money but did not feel very welcome.

β β β β β Lovely location, food was delicious and the service was excellent, very friendly and attentive staff. The cherry on top: dogs allowed! My big boy (a golden retriever) spoiled and cuddled by everyone, it's always nice to know he's welcome and definetely will be back with him and my family next time I'll visit Matera!

β β β β β What bad luck.. Really bad pizza in this beautiful part of Italy. The base was really thick and undercooked.. So much dough that it was like a loaf of bread. Too much topping with average ingredients. My wife and I have eaten great pizza in many places in Italy, so we know bad pizza when we get it. Nice waitress, good atmosphere.

β β β β β While the quality of food was good the service was incredibly poor. The staff ran around confused and generated a most unwelcome and uninviting atmosphere. The manager was in a constant state of stress visibly arguing and criticizing other staff including the head chef in the kitchen. We had the fried vegetable plate, pumpkin garbanzo bean soup (which was lukewarm), and a salad. We were supposed to be served a pizza, but after waiting for more than an hour it never came. All the while we were completely ignored as pizzas were being delivered to other parts of the restaurant. Only when we got up to pay our bill and leave did the manager ask, what about your pizza? REALLY??
At no point was there any hint of an apology and in fact the attitude was, βthis is how we roll hereβ. If this had occurred in my home country I would have been expected to walk out without paying a cent and told that manager to kiss my ass for ruining not only a dining experience but a whole evening. And by the way, we were not alone in how poorly this restaurant treats its guests this evening or in the past. Read the reviews and skip this ugly place.

β β β β β Nice atmosphere (deep in a cave). Friendly service. Good starters. But they forgot our main courses for almost an hour. And they didnβt rectify their mistake in an acceptable manner. The rude manager pretty much ignored us when we were settling the payment. Hence the score.

β β β β β We had pizza and wine and both were good. We left the place feeling full & happy. Staff was more than happy to help us navigate the menu and pick delicious vegetarian options :) thanks!
