You must be very carefull when renting a car. Make photos of each side of a car yourself, mark every single scratch on the protocol - yourself, get the signature from tchem. Otherwise they will try to charge you every tiny scratch when returning a car. We avoided that only because we had our own photos. Avis is same stand as Budget on Lamezia airport.

Would have to be the WORST car rental place on the planet. Why is that AVIS in Calabria teach their staff to rip off the public. The staff at Lamezia airport were outright rude and did nothing but try to up sell insurance when we already had purchased it from Australia. They gave us the wrong vehicles and both FEDERICA & ALESSIA would do nothing to assist. In fact they swiped my credit for a GPS I did not take and then swiped it for double the amount when I was told it would be reversed. THIEVING STAFF!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY in ITALY AT ALL. When the care was returned to Catania, they took another $1,000 from my credit card WITHOUT ANY AUTHORITY. They are always not contactable on the telephone when trying to query the alleged deductions. I then went to by travel agent who managed to eventually get through to them and they claimed the vehicle was damaged. I have NEVER to this day been advised and I have video of the vehicles when returned with NO DAMAGE! How does this work and how can they get away with it? AVIS YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES AND BOTH YOU AND YOUR STAFF ARE ABSOLUTE THIEVES!

Worst carrental ever. The stuff insisted to take full insurance as a must. I have free upgrade to higher class but they rejected saying there is no car available (parking was full of cars). On website you can see a big choice of cars but at the desk they can offer only Fiat Panda. Sorry Avis it's time to quit "Avis Preferred" program.

First things first: The car was fine, although the screen wash was empty and you couldn't open the car hood, as the mechanism was defective. However, when we arrived they tried to upsell us on insurances they couldn't explain to us. We denied, obviously, as they tried to charge us more than 15€ extra per day, without being able to explain what the insurance actually covers other than tires and road assistance. Afterwards they charged my credit card with an extra 56.67€, stating it is in case I bring it back with an empty fuel tank and they would refund it if it's given back with a full tank. We have given it back with a full tank, but guess what? We didn't get those 56.67€ back even almost 2 months later. Stay away from this car rental service if you don't want to get ripped off.

I always book from AVIS. I find that all this location is tries to do is upgrade or up sell. I'm a big man anyone I asked if they have anything bigger than a Toyota Yaris I had to pay the upgrade fee. They are helpful and friendly but they try very hard to upsell. even after I buy all the insurance is available before I go. But other than that they're good people to deal with. Only concern and no one has been able to give me an answer is a started giving us a lecture how we're supposed to return the car is clean. I admit the car was a little full of beach sand but that's it. Remember there's not much selection at these small Italian stations if you want more of a selection go further north to Rome.

Such a rip off agency. Hired a Fiat Panda and given a brand new Renault Clio I didn't want. Then was forced to take extra insurance. Price was triple original quote despite argument. When you've travelled for 30 hours you want a good experience not a rip off. Was nervous about new car in narrow streets whole time. Will never hire from Avis again.

The worst customer service I have ever encountered. I ordered a manual car and it was not made available. I organised to come back the next day and pick up an automatic car. We were told to go away and call a number. We tried closing the number for over 5 hours and it was only at 9pm that we got through to a gentleman called Vincenzo, who was not happy and told us off for calling so late. He told us to drive to Lamezia which was a 60km drive one way for us, and we were told they knew nothing about this and that no car was available for us. We then left for Reggio having been told that they would bring us a car before 5pm after we advised them we need to go to Messina the following day. However by 5pm there was no car and continued to ring the company and no-one responded. The following day being Thursday (September 19th) we finally got in touch with the company at 9am and the lady that answered told us she would call us back. We waited all day waiting for a call and again our calls went unanswered. So I went to Avis in Reggio Calabria that evening to ask what was going on with out car and the guy behind the counter told us that it had nothing to do with him and that we had to speak to Lamezia. We told him we were not leaving until he called Lamezia, which he did and said he would organise a car for us on Friday afternoon. Which meant we had to cancel our trip and lost our bookings for Messina. So Friday (September 20th) we went back and saw that gentlemen in Reggio and we FINALLY picked up the car we had ordered. Upon returning our car on 3rd October, to Avis in Lamezia, the lady (Olinda) that served us told us that she did not want to hear our complaint and could not help us because we did not get the car from her. It was not her problem apparently, despite her branch messing us around and running our holiday. This ruined our holiday completely and we missed out on Messina, lost one from the bookings and wasted 4 days of our holiday after flying many hours from Australia.
