★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Where should I start. First of all the waiter got us the last table of the terrace, even though there were other free tables. Not ideal table for a family of 3 with a baby in a bugy.
The Coca Cola I ordered was not a Coca Cola. It was some other coke drink filled in a Coca Cola glass. What is worse I noticed some customers were getting the normal original Coca Cola in a can, some like me a fake cola in a glass. I do not know why. Savings maybe!?
The food is mediocre. Nothing special about it. I can make the same at home.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In the famous Piazza Anfiteatro! A really cute red checkered table cloth outdoor seating area.
We are staying in a house overlooking this piazza so it was easy to go for a stroll. My husband wanted a wood-fired oven pizza and it was here. He really enjoyed his Caprese Pizza. I loved my Mushroom Asparagus Risotto.
Service was prompt. Not overly friendly but we were late to arrive at 20:30 and I’m sure the wait staff was tired.
Prices were medium. 8€ pizza. 8,50€ risotto. Beer though was 6€ for .50 draft German beer. A bit high for a standard draft. There is a 3€ cover charge on your bill. Standard for Italy to charge these ‘coperto’.
All in all an usual trattoria that offered good food in a beautiful setting.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When in Lucca one has to try to eat at one of the restaurants in the old charming Piazza dell'anfiteatro.
Trattoria Pizzeria Da Gherardo Lucca was our first choice and we were very satisfied. Food was wonderful and wine as well.
This restaurant had the most wonderful and sweet waiter.
He made us really feel welcome to Lucca and gave us many good tips to where to go.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic lunch spot (and open for dinner on the weekends, at least in the Spring of '22). Gerardo and his staff gave us incredible service. Really good food, all the pasta was great (I believe they make their own). Would highly recommend. Most tables are in the shade, and some in the sun for those who'd prefer.
