★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a disappointment. We first visited Omero pre-Covid, in early September, 2019. It was lovely. So lovely we were there twice in a week. Last evening’s visit was to have been the high point of probably our final trip to Florence. It is possible that we may decide to return to Florence in the future, but there is no chance we will include this restaurant in our itinerary. The best part of our experience was the salad, a pear filled with soft cheese. The wine, a bottle of Bolgheri Reserve that was more expensive because the one I had requested was unavailable, was terrific. But it began the downward dining spiral. My wife’s simple Rigatoni with a traditional ragu was terrible. The pasta wasn’t just al dente, it was uncooked, and the ragu had all the interest of a vintage jarred sauce. I had the Osso Buco. I wish I hadn’t. It could have been veal. It could have been beef. It couldn’t have been dryer, or more sauceless, and the mashed potatoes could have passed for wallpaper paste. Really. Dessert? No thanks. Please call us a taxi. A hundred and ninety dollars. At least, the very least, the wine was great. Will we ever be back? What do you think?

The wine list is also formidable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Trattoria Omero was highly recommended by a neighbor of ours who travels extensively for business. It had been a few years since he last visited, but we decided to try it. I emailed them in Italian to get a reservation. No problem. We arrived on time, and the Maitre d’ had no clue about our reservation. Most of the family got some pasta, which was ok. I ordered the Fiorentina di pollo. 15 Euros. Why not...we were in Florence. However, I assume the chef wasn't aware that Florentina indicates an accompaniment of spinach. What I received instead, was a plate of three large fried chicken nuggets, no sauce, no spinach. Upon questioning the contents of the plate I was brought, I was told “his is our Chicken Florentine." What a disappointment! I guess the view makes up for the food, but our table by the kitchen did not allow any window views (that we could've had if we had been seated at the empty tables by the windows.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Delightful local hilltop trattoria, within walking distance of Oltrano, climbing via plane-tree lined streets with white elderflowers in perfect bloom towards Tuscan views. We snuck the last table unreserved for Easter Sunday lunch. Pici Cacio e Pepe with zucchini & Ragu penne to start, followed by a shared feast of pigeon & vitello brains...glorious in its basic moussy mouthwatering simplicity. The Strawberry-Misu proved an elegant finish. Wine chosen: a Boscarelli Montepulciano 2018...very easy table drinking accompaniment. Yum! Well recommended for its honest no-fuss hearty fare.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This trattoria is a diamond. Fantastic view from the terrace, very good service. Great wine selection.
Most importantly, the quality and freshness of dishes is great. You will love all flavours.
To be recommended is the Steak Florentine style (basically nearly 1 kilo of meat for 2 persons): just excellent meat!
We had a great evening there and will.for sure come back there if we have a chance.
