The rental car center is actually in walking distance (about 8 minutes) from the airport, but there are no signs, you need to cross roads and go up and down the pavement. So, if you are there for the first time, don't know the area or have heavy luggage, be on the safe side and take the shuttle!
If you rented your car with insurance by an internet travel site and not directly by the car rental company, have a good look at your emails and documents. What can happen is that the car company is not aware of your insurance. That means if anything happens to the car, you need to pay that to the rental company first and then get it back from the insurance.
