Da qui abbiamo una vista stupenda dei lungarni con la torre della Cittadella e i vecchi arsenali. Presente un antico varco nelle spallette murate per dare accesso al fiume. Il toponimo Porta a Mare identifica storicamente il quartiere adiacente all'opera muraria, caratterizzato dalla presenza del bastione Stampace e, fino alla metà del novecento, dagli storici "scali del Sale" presso la darsena che sorgeva, subito fuori le mura, lungo l'incile del canale dei Navicelli. Pisa divenne grande e rispettata in.tutto il mediterraneo e fece dire a un grande poeta di allora " e meglio un morto in casa che un Pisano all'uscio " chi vuole intendere intenda !!!!!!!!!!!! Partendo dalla chiesa di San Giovanni Algatano ricostruita dopo il bombardamento di Pisa del 31 agosto 1943, dove riposano i resti motatali non ricosciuti delle vittime di tutta la città, purtroppo attualmente chiusa per restauro. Davanti all'antico sostegno del canale dei Navicelli, molto ben conservato e recentemente restaurato, vi si può ammirare il dipinto della Madonna dei navicellai ( purtroppo, date le intemperie ad essa sottoposte, una copia. L'originale si trova nella chiesa di San Marco).Fino ad arrivare ad una chiesa tra le più antiche di Pisa, San Paolo A Ripa. D'Arno con la sua imponente piazza dedicata all'omonima chiesa.
