Da questa porta si accede verso destra alla camminata verso l'Arno, verso sinistra alla piazza dei Miracoli, che dista almeno 2 km. It is one of the entrances to the walk on the city walls. An experience to try. Entrance costs € 3 per person, children under the age of 8 are free. From this door you can access to the right towards the Arno, to the left to Piazza dei Miracoli, which is at least 2 km away.

Infatti essa fu creata accanto al preesistente Portello di Santa Marta. Il nome deriva dalla vicinanza dell'omonima chiesa. La porta aveva importanza strategica perché sorgeva accanto alla vasca delle gondole (o Porto delle Gondole), un bacino artificiale destinato ad accogliere piccole imbarcazioni che giungevano da fuori città tramite il Fosso del Mulino. Tale vasca è tuttora visibile nella odierna Piazza delle Gondole. Presso questa porta si congiunge l'acquedotto mediceo, ultimato all'inizio del XVII secolo, che portava acqua alle varie fontane di Pisa, di cui una in prossimità della porta stessa. The Porta di Santa Marta, in Pisa, was created during the Florentine occupation in the mid-15th century to increase the flow of traffic. In fact it was created next to the pre-existing Portello di Santa Marta. The name derives from the proximity of the homonymous church. The gate had strategic importance because it stood next to the gondola basin (or Porto delle Gondole), an artificial basin intended to accommodate small boats that came from outside the city via the Fosso del Mulino. This tank is still visible in today's Piazza delle Gondole. The Medici aqueduct, completed at the beginning of the 17th century, which brought water to the various fountains of Pisa, one of which near the door itself, joins this gate.
