Le scale sono decorate con graffiti e ferri battuti davvero ben fatti Beautiful example of architecture from the first twenty years of the century. Sono posizionati come due sentinelle all'inizio di via Sardegna e via Washington imponenti e un po tetri forse avrebbero bisogno di una maggiore cura. La zona è secondo me una delle più belle di Milano .Da piazza Piemonte si può imboccare corso Vercelli o verso Wagner arrivare a piazza Giulio Cesare e la nuova zona di CityLife che ha preso il posto della vecchia Fiera. Of course, to call them skyscrapers now is not the case but when they were built in 1923 they certainly were. They are positioned like two sentries at the beginning of via Sardegna and via Washington, imposing and a little gloomy perhaps they would need more care. In my opinion, the area is one of the most beautiful in Milan. From Piazza Piemonte you can take Corso Vercelli or towards Wagner you can reach Piazza Giulio Cesare and the new area of CityLife that has taken the place of the old Fair.

Ma all'epoca della costruzione (1923) erano considerati grattacieli. Infatti in quegli anni il regolamento edilizio comunale non permetteva la costruzione di edifici che superassero i 28 metri. Venne fatta una deroga per la costruzione dei due edifici gemelli (ma differenti) in virtù dell'enorme vastità della piazza. Progettati dall'architetto Mario Borgato questi due mini-grattacieli dalle linee art deco vengono sopranominati "Gemelle" ma basta osservarli attentamente per notarne la differenza, si elevano come sentinelle su Piazza Piemonte. Da Piazza Piemonte si aprono tre grandi vie: via Washington (al centro, fra i due palazzi), via Elba (a sinistra dei due palazzi) e via Sardegna (a destra). Edificati in stile art déco, all'epoca della costruzione avevano raggiunto un'altezza tale (38 m) da essere definiti "Grattacieli". È una piccola curiosità che ormai non troppi milanesi ricordano. Che io sappia, i palazzi non sono visitabili, però in zona ci sono tante cose da fare e da vedere.
