★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Go for a hike to grotta dei lamponi (passo dammusio), it's really worth it! When going around Monte Nero (which is 20min from Piano Provenzana on the right side you'll find a bunch of little craters too. You won't actually need a guide but good mountain shoes are recommended. For exploring cages you'll need a flashlight.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ski Area on the South side of Etna. A fun drive up when it had just snowed but wasn't an issue for us as we were in a 4x4. However if not you must carry and fit snow chains. The police will stop and check you.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My second attempt to winter climb Etna from this place after a year. Route is longer than the one from Rifugio Sapienza but less tourists ( January) great views no jeeps nor scooters.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ “Must see” when at Sicilië. We went bij 4x4 bus. Easy to see all what you want to see in less the time. A hike will be more fulfilling. We are not that much of experienced hikers. A hike to the top takes at least a day when in good shape. The guide told us a lot about the volcano too.
