A	Alessio Brugnoli on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il Palazzo Ducale Guarini, prima conosciuto come Palmieri, edificato nel Cinquecento, fu ristrutturato nella prima metà del XVIII secolo su disegno dell'architetto Mauro Manieri, che realizzò uno dei capolavori del rococò pugliese. nel 1807 e nel 1813 ospitò prima Giuseppe Bonaparte e, successivamente, Gioacchino Murat che, a ricordo della splendida ospitalità ricevuta “firmò” con il diamante dell’anello lo specchio di una mensola del palazzo Oltre la facciata, con i suoi eleganti balconi arricchita dal portale dalla capricciosa cornice mistilinea, che la rendono simile a una quinta teatrale, è degno di nota il pittoresco cortile con archetti pensili e da un suggestivo giardino da cui si apre una scalinata ricavata nella roccia che conduce ad un corridoio sotterraneo, lungo il quale sono scolpiti due fregi a bassorilievo. Un fregio riporta scene di combattimento tra guerrieri a piedi e a cavallo, mentre l’altro sulla parete opposta, ha una decorazione floreale con rami a volute e foglie d’acanto; al centro emerge, da un cespo di pianta, un volto femminile con copricapo, ai due lati steli che occupano tutta la restante lunghezza. Nel giardino del palazzo è anche conservata una interessante testimonianza archeologica che rimanda alle antichissime origini di Lecce, una struttura ipogea risalente al IV sec. a.
