Maggiore, Italian style car rental, or better Italian scum rental. Before hiring a car with this company, read on. I booked with Maggiore through an online platform. I paid in advance so that I could rent a small and reliable 500 FIAT car for the competitive price of €34. I was heading to the sea for a day-break. Unfortunately, during weekends Maggiore’s office in the city centre is not open. So, I took a taxi to get to Florence airport (for an additional €20). I took the taxi instead of the bus to get there on time, hoping to collect my car keys ON TIME. Too bad I was served 45 minutes late because only one Maggiore employee works on Friday evenings. You may spend €20 to get to reach Maggiore’s office on time. It may take you about an hour to get to Florence by plane from multiple European cities. It takes you about an hour to be served by Maggiore staff. Of course, it is Italian style, so you close an eye. Overly smiley Stefania, the one and only available employee, proposed me an insurance package in addition to the €34. She carefully listed the additional insurance options, suggesting a full car insurance for about €30. She explained in detail the offer and convinced me to pay the extra-money, for ‘security’, she says, ‘so that you don’t have to think of all possible contingencies’. By spending more time than needed discussing the available insurance schemes, Stefania, unfortunately or maybe deliberately, forgot to mention the important contractual obligations which bind you and Maggiore. Of course, the contract you sign does not list most of the obligations. Maggiore, of course, Italian style scum! For instance, Stefania forgot to mention that if you happen to be more than 29 minutes late in handing back the keys of the rented car - which can often happen on busy peak-hours on weekdays, but also during weekends, especially if you head back to Florence through the small congested airport road - you are going to pay the Italian style extra-fee of 180€ for an extra day of FIAT 500. It does not matter that the contract you signed does not mention either the 29 minutes’ rule or the additional costs you will be charged should you be late. Like it or not, lawful or more probably not, you either willingly pay the inflated fees for a full-extra day or Maggiore takes the money from the deposit that you left without your consent. Maggiore, Italian style scum! It does not matter that you arrived, like in my case, just minutes a few minutes after the 29 minutes’ limit. Of course, the insurance, which is 'for your own security' does not cover this contingency. You will be charged a full fee for one extra day comprehensive of all possible additional costs (including an insurance worth 40 euros you obviously never requested and, most Italian style than everything, you will pay 'airport taxes' worth 20 euros!!!). It does not matter that no employee of Maggiore, Stefania or anyone else, has ever mentioned even the existence of the 29 minutes’ time limit. And, it does not matter that Maggiore handed you the keys of the car you paid for 45 minutes late. Yes, Italian style scum. I would recommend that, whether you are renting a car for work or pleasure, you stay away from Maggiore at all costs, which is probably going to save you a lot of stress, time and money.

Never ever rent a car from them, no service , over paying , old cars and the moment you have an issue they all of a sudden dont talk english , i did the mastike , hopefully other pepole will not do the same. BE CAREFUL

They charged us for a lot of extra money then our booking said. When we arrived at home, our deposit was deducted from our Visa. We tried to get in touch with them but we still haven't received an answer yet. It was also impossibe to communicate with them, because their English was horrible. They didn't even try to speak in English and help us with our questions. I would definitely not recommend them!

Total scam. Promising on phone one prise and full covered insurance, but at the end add 60 euros extra, mentioning that windows are not actually included in "full covered insurance" and tons of other headache. At the end scumed us with fuel deposit. It was full, dropping out, but the car was not indicating it so they charged 60 euros more. NOT RECOMMENDED

Car was clean and only a few months old. They reserve an amount for a full tank of fuel on your credit card but don't charge if delivered full upon return. Good as far as rental car companies go.

hello, i rent a car at maggiore. the car was defected, the clutch is stack. we couldn't drive. maggiore came to take the car from me at Firenze. maggiore still didn't bring to me other car to exchange. I'm in an expensive vacation. every day cost to me a lot. I'm with my wife and suitcases - and no car. I hope and ask for a car soon as possible early in the morning. 9/4/22. I'm stay at Firenze at hotel - residenze D'epoca 'LA Basilica. please arrange that. thank you.

I have been charged 55.95 euro for refueling but dropped the car with more fuel back. BE CAREFULL this rental company is involved in refueling SCAM. I have contacted them last 2 weeks several times as errors can happen. No reply. No refund. I attach photos as proof. Pickup at 1/2 fuel drop off was little more. Plain old refueling scam!
