Very interesting place even if getting a guided tour is really necessary due to the almost non existent paper guides available. Ticket admission allows entry to other attractions within a week time

Interesting stop on our tour of Via Appia. There's an old joke about how you find out just how much someone thought of themselves by the size of their tombstone. Well, this might be the largest tombstone I've personally witnessed.

the place itself is fascinating, bring you back to thousands of years ago.. sad truth is that inside is pretty empty and you'll feel like you wasted 4€ ticket! a way to feel less sorry is to buy APPIA ANTICA card which with 10euro will give a chance to visit this site and all the other on via appia antica ! if you don't wanna waster one cent, just admire it from outside and you've seen more than 75% of its beauty !

Funerary facilities (tombs, mausoleums, catacombs) along the Apia road began to appear immediately after its construction. Since the city’s territory was not supposed to be buried according to the laws then in Rome, these places were considered the most prestigious for burial. One of the most impressive of these buildings in the vicinity of Rome is considered to be the mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, dating back to 50 BC. er Recommend!

A tomb for a woman who was married to the son of the richest man in rome - Crassus. Definitely worth a check!

It is a small place but very interesting. Cecilia Metella was the daughter in law of the famus Marcus Crassus who served under Julius Cesar. The ticket is a bit expensive but give you also the access to the Villa the Quintili. It is not too far from San Sebastian catacombs, and very easy to visit on the same day.
