We decided last minute to stop by for the next tour not knowing a reservation was ideal, there was already a reservation for a German speaking group, however the guide was happy for us to join and explained everything to us in English. We were surprised to learn that she had only been working there for 6 months as she knew her way around and was very knowledgeable! It's a wonderful piece of history without the large tourist crowds. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Visited here with the family including children aged 11 to 7. We had a wonderful visit guided by a knowledgable and engaged guide in English. We were the only people on the tour. The kids and adults both loved it. Cost was 36e for the six of us. Take cash as they don't accept cards.

You need to book your visit in advance and take a train from the back of Termini station for about 20 minutes to reach the site, but it is well-worth the trip. The tour is the most extensive of the catacombs I've seen in Rome, we zig-zagged through the levels with the guide for about 50 minutes and visited some beautiful frescoes. Our guide was friendly and informative. Visits are scheduled hourly so we didn't feel rushed in anyway. Unlike other sites where multiple groups enter at once, we were the only group there. Unfortunately you can't take photos in the catacombs.

The catacombs are a most dramatic and interesting experience. You step through an unassuming door, and as you descend the stairs the heat of the day leaches away. The empty alcoves stretch out before you, and line the walls of the many side tunnels (which sink into darkness). Particularly interesting are the frescos, whose meaning are very ably explained by the tour guide. Above ground, the Mausoleum of Saint Helena is a very impressive edifice. The internal museum is well worth the ticket price. Both aspects of the site are better suited to Italian speakers, although a guidebook is available in English.

Great tour filled with wonderful frescoes and history! They have tours every hour on the hour but we called ahead and they were kind enough to wait for us. Awesome site to visit while in Rome!!
