★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An overpriced archeological place if you take into consideration that it cost the same (€16.50) as the archeological park of Pompeii. In addition the main attraction which is the Greek Theater was not accessible because of an upcoming event. The theatre was covered with white wood to protect it but this way you could not see the archeological value of the place. The worst was that nobody informed you about that when you buy such an expensive ticket to know at least what to expect during your visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stunning views from the theatre itself and plenty to explore. Just a shame it's a bit difficult to work out where to buy a ticket (from across the road it seems) and find your way in to it. It's also a shame that the venue is a good half an hour or so walk away from the rest of the touristy bit of Syracuse but can't be helped.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Greek Amphitheater of Syracuse on the south slopes of the Temenite hill is certainly an amazing sight and illustrates to this day the importance of the spoken word and the theatrical culture that was flourishing in the Hellenistic world and has influenced society to this day.
Sitting on the steps, that oversee today the modern city of Syracuse you can get a glimpse of the Ionian Sea. The sight invited the traveler to step back on time and imagine the crowds that sat on these very same steps many millennia ago who like the observer today were contemplating the meaning and intricacies of life while taking part in the dramatic performances.
It should be noted that currently the steps are mostly covered with wood and thus hide the underlying stone structure. During the Summer artistic performances are given in the theater and I would highly recommend experiencing one of these live performances.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really cool place to take a look at. There are some caves around the theater, a tiny waterfall in one of them and the theater itself looks pretty neat too. Right now it's under construction but nevertheless you're able to walk down the stairs into the theater itself.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Greek theatre was "renovated" to be used now, so there was no original Greek theater left to see. We were really disappointed. What saved the visit was a David Attenborough moment we vitnesed, life and death struggle between a snake and a lizard.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's more of a construction site, than an ancient theatre these days. You are not allowed to explore freely and if you ask me, because of the new instalments it has lost the charm it used to have (looking at the old pictures).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing site of the ancient Greek Theater with a great view as the backdrop. We found some small caves at the back of the theatre and wondering what they were for.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Don’t waste your time to see theater while spending 13€. It’s covered by a new stage, lights, benches … for performances that taking place. So you can’t really see how it really looks like. Be careful, staff doesn’t inform you about this.
