Owned castle, to be visited by reservation only. The position on the old state road ss 63 facilitates the vision passing. I enclose some historical information: In medieval documentation, the toponym Verrucola is associated with the name of a noble family, the Bosi, which holds the domain of the settlement. Defensive structures are documented in Verrucola dei Bosi as early as the 12th century. In 1104 a notarial deed was drawn up in caminata domini Bosonis: it is thought to refer to a tower house, perhaps connected to a castrum mentioned in a document of 1148, the year in which in a bull of Pope Innocent III there is reference to the ecclesiam S. Margarite de castro Verucula. One of the gates of the village The strategic importance due to the presence of trans-Apennine roads means that during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries Verrucola was disputed between different forces. The ancient lordship of the Bosi, the Dallo, the Nobles of Castello Aghinolfi, the Lucchesi and the Malaspina fought each other to take over it [2]. The latter claim ancient imperial privileges based on rights linked to their own genealogy. On the basis of these privileges they include Verrucola in their first division of 1221 between Corrado and Opizzone Malaspina but they will not have full dominion over it until over a century later.

It stands on the homonymous village which is well maintained and cared for. It is one of those places that makes tourists fall in love and not for the tranquility and the slightly fairytale location. Too bad for the castle almost always closed and can only be visited by reservation.

Private and inhabited castle. However, it is possible to visit it. The telephone number to contact is posted at its entrance. The owner is a very courteous and helpful person.

Suggestive medieval village and fortress. The visit to the castle, guided by the owner, superficial and with a "voluntary" contribution, I would say exorbitant and not justified

Very beautiful and characteristic place, a step back in time, it is worth visiting the village, unfortunately I was unable to see the castle because it was closed, I will gladly return

It was some time that I passed in front of it and for one reason or another I never stopped. Today I finally succeeded, I leave you the photos to entice anyone to stop and enjoy this small and enchanting village, it is worth it. I can't wait to go back to have an aperitif with the cutting boards offered by the small restaurant in the village, in their splendid garden.
