The church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is located in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, adjacent to the central station. It was built at the beginning of the twentieth century in what was then the outskirts of Salerno. It was damaged during the Allied landing in 1943, due to its proximity to the railway line between Naples and Reggio Calabria. The priest, worried about the advancement of the soldiers, left the church. Since then, the parish was entrusted to the Order of Friars Minor. On 1 April of the Jubilee Year 2000, Archbishop Emeritus Gerardo Pierro consecrated the religious building and the altar to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The church with three naves has two entrance portals, one of which is central framed by small columns supporting an adorned lunette, and one on the left side of the building. The façade is embellished by the presence of two large lateral mullioned windows and a central rose window under which a row of blind arches is arranged. Above the main entrance portal there is a lunette decorated with a mosaic bearing the inscription "Temple dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus" and the figure of Christ. Of great artistic value is the rose window, also present above the apse and visible from the courtyard of the convent of the minor friars. Two rows of arches ending in pink marble columns divide the church into three naves, of which a larger central one and two narrower lateral ones. The ceiling is wooden. At the sides of the altar, there are, on the right, the tabernacle and on the left the statue of the Virgin Mary. On the back, however, there is the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a splendid and rich mosaic imprinted on the internal wall of the apse depicts the Eucharistic Adoration. To the right of the altar there is a room that allows access to the pipe organ, built in 1950. During the Christmas period, inside the church, it is possible to witness the exhibition of a very detailed and suggestive nativity scene. .
