Essa era annessa al contiguo ed omonimo monastero, non molto lontano dal Duomo; fu poi associata al più potente monastero di San Benedetto. Deve il suo nome al fatto che vi era custodita una venerata croce su tavola, dipinta nel Duecento, ora conservata nel Museo diocesano. DescrizioneLa chiesa è a pianta basilicale, a tre navate, con abside semi-circolare. Presenta struttura principale in muratura portante con copertura a due falde in capriate lignee a vista sulla navata principale; le navate laterali sono voltate. Le pareti interne si presentano intonacate e tinteggiate in bianco; le arcate tra la navata principale e le laterali si presentano con la muratura originaria a vista. La pavimentazione dell'aula è in mattonelle di granigliato di marmo. La facciata principale è moderna e costituita, centralmente, da tre portali d'ingresso ad arco con infissi in legno. Presenta nella parte basamentale una zoccolatura alta in travertino, poi, nella parte superiore si presenta intonacata e tinteggiata in ocra chiaro. Sempre nella parte alta è presente una fila di 7 monofore al di sopra del rosone vetrato circolare. Sul lato sud della facciata si erge lo slanciato campanile a pianta quadrata. XIII (whole good mention) The church dates back to before the thirteenth century and was originally called "Santa Maria della Pietà di Portanova church". It was annexed to the contiguous and homonymous monastery, not very far from the Duomo; it was then associated with the more powerful monastery of San Benedetto. It owes its name to the fact that there was kept a venerated cross on a table, painted in the thirteenth century, now preserved in the Diocesan Museum. Description The church has a basilica plan, with three naves, with a semi-circular apse. It has a main structure in load-bearing masonry with a two-pitched roof in wooden trusses visible on the main nave; the side aisles are vaulted. The internal walls are plastered and painted in white; the arches between the main nave and the side ones have the original exposed masonry. The floor of the classroom is in marble grit tiles. The main facade is modern and consists, centrally, of three arched entrance portals with wooden frames. In the base part it has a high plinth in travertine, then, in the upper part it is plastered and painted in light ocher. Also in the upper part there is a row of 7 single-light windows above the circular glazed rose window. On the south side of the façade stands the slender square bell tower.

È zona a traffico limitato, quindi è consigliabile parcheggiare lungo corso Garibaldi o percorrendo via Bastioni all'altezza del museo provinciale nelle strisce blu. Molto ben tenuta, a tre navate con archi sorretti da 6 colonne di epoca romana.La chiesa risale al XIII secolo. La tavola con il dipinto del crocefisso a cui è intitolata è conservata nel museo Diocesano. The church is located about 50 meters from the beginning of via mercanti in the historic center of Salerno. It is a limited traffic area, so it is advisable to park along Corso Garibaldi or along Via Bastioni at the provincial museum in the blue stripes. Very well maintained, with three naves and arches supported by 6 Roman columns. The church dates back to the 13th century. The table with the painting of the crucifix to which it is entitled is preserved in the Diocesan museum.
R	Raffaella D'Amelio on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa del Santissimo Crocifisso si trova in Via Mercanti, nel punto in cui si incrociano il centro storico e il corso principale. Si affaccia su una piazzetta ricavata nel 1928 dalla demolizione di case fatiscenti, anno in cui fu anche realizzata la facciata in stile barocco. In seguito all’alluvione del 1956 fu edificata la facciata attuale. Di questa chiesa non si conosce molto, ma la tradizione vuole che sia stata fondata in epoca longobarda da un nipote dell’imperatore Costantino, ma non si hanno sue notizie certe fino al 1200 circa, quando divenne sede del convento delle clarisse. La struttura della chiesa è di tipo basilicale, con tre absidi e tre navate. All’interno vi sono due ordini di archi. Questi si sorreggono grazie a sei colonne di epoca romana con capitelli diversi. La prima colonna a sinistra è l’unica ad avere una decorazione in rilievo a spirale. Nell’abside centrale, il mosaico moderno riproduce l’affresco della Crocifissione che si trova nella cripta. The church of the Santissimo Crocifisso is located in Via Mercanti, at the point where the historic center and the main street meet. It overlooks a small square obtained in 1928 from the demolition of dilapidated houses, the year in which the façade in Baroque style was also built. Following the flood of 1956, the current facade was built. Not much is known about this church, but tradition has it that it was founded in the Lombard period by a nephew of the Emperor Constantine, but we do not have certain information about it until around 1200, when it became the seat of the convent of the Poor Clares. The structure of the church is of a basilica type, with three apses and three naves. Inside there are two orders of arches. These are supported by six Roman columns with different capitals. The first column on the left is the only one to have a spiral relief decoration. In the central apse, the modern mosaic reproduces the fresco of the Crucifixion found in the crypt.

Bellissimi il Crocifisso ligneo e il mosaico, il cui originale si trova nella Cripta. Church located in Piazza Matteotti near Via Mercanti. The building, although renovated in the 1950s, dates back to the era of the Lombards. The wooden Crucifix and the mosaic, the original of which is located in the Crypt, are beautiful.
