Ubicata in Via San Benedetto, nel Centro Storico della città, risale al IX secolo D.C., ovvero al periodo medievale, quando a Salerno vi erano i Normanni. In stile romanico, l'abbazia benedettina, si trova di fronte al Museo Archeologico di Salerno, anch'esso molto interessante da visitare. Bellissimo il Crocefisso del Cristo dietro l'altare maggiore! Ma, in particolare, la nudità delle pareti della Chiesa, ispirano il raccoglimento, la meditazione del fedele in preghiera. L'abbazia è spesso impegnata in interessanti eventi artistico-culturali, soprattutto concerti, che meritano di essere seguiti per l'elevato spessore. Ricordo molti anni fa di aver seguito uno splendido, memorabile concerto di Uto Ughi. It is for me the most beautiful church in Salerno ... Located in Via San Benedetto, in the historic center of the city, it dates back to the 9th century AD, or the medieval period, when the Normans were in Salerno. In Romanesque style, the Benedictine abbey is located in front of the Archaeological Museum of Salerno, which is also very interesting to visit. The crucifix of Christ behind the high altar is beautiful! But, in particular, the nakedness of the walls of the Church inspire the meditation, the meditation of the faithful in prayer. The abbey is often engaged in interesting artistic-cultural events, especially concerts, which deserve to be followed for their high thickness. I remember many years ago having followed a splendid, memorable concert by Uto Ughi.

E' un vero grande peccato che la mancanza di vocazioni ma anche di spiritualita' delle persone la tengano quasi sempre chiusa, ma anche piuttosto spoglia. Magnificent. Very ancient. It exudes history, looks like a temple with beautiful columns. It is a real great pity that the lack of vocations but also of people's spirituality almost always keeps it closed, but also rather bare.

Si presume invece che tale chiesa sia stata fondata da Arechi II mentre esiste un documento che ne riferisce di una donazione avvenuta nell’anno 803. Lo stile romanico è quello che caratterizza la struttura della storica e mistica chiesa la cui struttura è a tre navate sparate da due file di colonne e pilastri che si raccordano mediante arcate a tutto sesto con una fila di monofore. Sulla facciata il pronao con tre archi a tutto sesto posti su colonne di spoglio con capitelli corinzi. The church of San Benedetto was part of the Benedictine monastery whose exact date of origin is unknown. Instead, it is assumed that this church was founded by Arechi II while there is a document that refers to a donation made in the year 803. The Romanesque style is what characterizes the structure of the historic and mystical church whose structure has three naves shot by two rows of columns and pillars that are connected by round arches with a row of single lancet windows. On the façade the pronaos with three round arches placed on bare columns with Corinthian capitals.
