β β β β β Basquiat is a really interesting restaurant to try while in Matera. Named after (my favourite) artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, the owner has reproduced his famous paintings and outfitted the interior with stylish decor. The food is modern and delicious, while the service was friendly and prompt. Even with our poor level of Italian language skills, the host was accommodating in explaining the food and making us feel welcome!

β β β β β Absolutely great meal! we had the spaghetti with seafood and the san giovannino spaghetti and they were both amazing! great flavours and seasoning!!! In addition to the great food the staff is super welcoming and the restaurant ambiance is super cool!

β β β β β Amazing Podolica, orecchiette was ok, don't forget to try the local mushrooms and Primitivo is a must.
Also the staff is very kind and helpful.

β β β β β I knew this restaurant was 4.7 rating.we did order some item but they did not have it and we understood (they said they were busy during the lunch time) Second we did order the bottle of wine but no testing before pouring like is was water ? might be a restaurant style. And the last for secondo I did order the sausage but no way to much grease such as just came from a supermarket , with all the respect .
Service is look like super pretended β¦if you need more bread you should ask otherwise no way to get it
We make a mistake for this place which by our humble opinion is to much to get 4.7 rating.

β β β β β We had the most wonderful time at Basquiat! The hospitality of the staff is top tier, very attentive to every detail. When we encountered a language barrier because of our lack of Italian the Chef stepped out and explained. Turns out the kitchen is arranged such that the guests can see inside which is a great joy, especially when the Chef is plating.
We had pasta (tomato and carbonara) for primi which were very good and then we had the beef steak.
Turns out they dry age the meat for 7 weeks, using the meat from local Podolico(?) cows. The result is easily the best beef steak we had anywhere in Italy! It was rare on the inside, seared on the outside and just melted in our mouths with every bite. The small potatoes were also done to perfection.
My only regret is that we had a long drive ahead and couldnβt sample the wine - it looked interesting!
Overall a great experience!
