Simply perfect! Service, People and food!

Excellent food with fantasy and twist on Italian classics. One of the most innovative restaurants in Lucca. We enjoyed every meal and felt welcomed and comfortable in the outdoor area. Very friendly staff.

Did I eat at a different restaurant than everyone else? Location absolutely gorgeous, and the service mostly attentive, (though occasionally confused by their own menu), but that's where the positive feedback ends unfortunately. Very cool bread and butter presentation, but the butter is too salty. On purpose. (Keep in mind that while this review is in English, I was there speaking Italian with an Italian foodie, so language barriers and/or uncultured palates are not at play.) First, you cannot order a cocktail with your meal. Seriously. I tried. Sorry, Wine or water. Extensive wine list, but that doesn't mean that your 1st or 2nd pick is actually available. For what they charge, I should be able to drink whatever I want while I eat, especially considering they have a gorgeous full bar... that is inaccessible during dinner. Started with the salmon appetizer. It should have tasted like salmon, not the excessive dill all over it. Beautiful presentation, but the eating experience was sorely lacking, especially of fish flavor, and the 'guacamole' was anything but. Followed with Smoke on the Water pasta, also disappointing. Cacio e pepe is not a soupy sauce and adding lime doesn't improve it. Duck sandwich sounded promising until it arrived literally sitting in a puddle of mayonnaise. One cannot just combine random flavors and call it gourmet. Lime does not complement cacio e pepe. Dill does not complement salmon. Puddles of mayo don't complement anything. Brief bright spot of nontypical flavors of gelato dessert at the end, then promptly ruined by an incorrect (overcharged) bill. Obviously, it was adjusted without complaint, and could have been accidental. I'm willing to believe it was a mistake, most likely. (Unlike, for example, at Ristorante All'Olivo where it is a blatant intentional attempt to overcharge foreigners by billing different prices than what the menu indicates, figuring no one will notice. Yes, it does happen in Lucca...). All these positive reviews make me wonder if I should reconsider, but after three non-stellar plates, I'm not sure it's worth risking the money, as around 50€/ person is not chump change. Sorry to rain on the love fest, but our experience was so different from the others, I felt it had to be shared.

A raising star has shown in the center of Lucca! The food is amazing with a few adjustments to be made in the future. Service is still a bit stumbling trying to find it's feet but the will is definitely there and the overall impression is a great experience in a cave hidden from the tourist traps in their cosy backyard. My advice to anyone that honors the good food experience: try it!

Wow how lucky is Lucca! With the recent opening of SurReale we have another exceptional dining experience. Not your typical Tuscan cuisine, rather riffs on classics with flavours from around the globe. Our first of many visits I think. Fantastic, professional foh added to the evening. All this in a rather special setting with a romantic interior courtyard garden. Complimenti ed auguri.

Fine dining. Flavours might be a little adventurous for some people (the use some bitter herbs, which is not common), but it's absolutely worked for me. Ordered octopus for the starter, and ravioli as main course. Absolutely amazing. Another nice detail: they offered a promo to enter Villa Reale - amazing park and palace just outside of Lucca.
