Bellissimo tutto!

Unfortunately I happened to be in Modica on the closing day of this very important church, which is why I was able to admire only the facade. It is part of a monastic complex built in the second half of the fifteenth century and which became famous because it was able to withstand the catastrophic earthquake of 1693. A fortune which, however, did not have in the second half of the nineteenth century when it was transformed into a prison and therefore completely distorted in its original architecture. . The only two elements that have been preserved are the façade of the church and the cloister of the monastery, which therefore represent one of the highest and most precious examples of late Gothic architecture that spread in Sicily between the end of the fifteenth century and the beginning of the sixteenth century. The façade is breathtakingly beautiful, consisting of a sumptuous splayed ogival portal finely decorated and surmounted by a refined count's coat of arms flanked by two precious Moorish-style single lancet windows.

Entry is 3 euro per adult but comes with informative tour which is also provided in English. Finished restoration which started in 1991 in 2010. Definitely worth seeing!
