★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa del SS. Salvatore, posta in seconda linea rispetto al corso principale della città, su una posizione rialzata, è una delle più significative tra le chiese minori.
Placido Carrafa, lo storico modicano che scrive nel sesto decennio del '600, così la ricorda: "Tra altre sono le coadiutrici della chiesa di S. Pietro, cioè quella del SS. Salvatore, su di cui ha però giurisdizione la Chiesa Maggiore, quella di Santa Maria del Soccorso e l'altra di San Paolo Apostolo".
Non abbiamo molte notizie relative alla chiesa precedente il terremoto del 1693.I
n una memoria del sacerdote Giovanni Blanco, del 1930, si ricorda che la chiesa matrice di S. Giorgio nel 1441 vantava tra i diritti quello dello ius funeris nella chiesa del SS. Salvatore che si trovava allora fuori le mura.
In età rinascimentale è ricordata per una importante fiera, in occasione della festa del SS. Salvatore, il 6 Agosto.
