We visited this place after a morning of rain. There is more than the castle to visit. The gardens are beautiful and well managed.
We climbed to the very top, although I'm not keen on heights, it really was well worth the climb.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is truly a magnificent place and experience. The museum of dolls and toys is impressive, as is the fortress and its grounds. Make sure you go uo to the tower, it's a lot of stairs but well worth the 360 degrees view of lake Maggiore, the mountains and surrounding villages. We spent almost 4 hours there and just didn't want to leave. The caffè on site is great to relax in and prices are more than reasonable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Charming and interesting - in particular thanks to the marvelous view of the lake from the top and for the extensive toy museum, without doubt a different experience from your usual museums.
The visit includes different locations only reachable by stairs - something to keep in mind in case of any form of impaired mobility.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It’s like travelling back in time.
As a castle the a Rocca offers truly breathtaking rooms restored to their original colourful grandeur. The scenery from the towers over the lake is stunning, as the perfumes of the botanical gardens. There’s a surprisingly large ancient dolls and toys exhibition which is both a little creepy and very interesting. As I said, just like time travel.
Fun fact: you can get married here!
