★ ★ ★ ★ ★ E' stata realizzata nel 1500 su disegno dell'architetto fiorentino Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane il quale ricevette dagli Orsini l'incarico di potenziare le difese di Pitigliano, capitale della loro contea.
In particolare il Sangallo lavorò ai possenti bastioni che nella parte sud-est del borgo avrebbero meglio difeso la fortezza.
In uno di questi bastioni fu aperta questa profonda porta con arco a tutto sesto, contornata da un bugnato di travertino, che all'esterno è pure sormontata dallo stemma ursineo.
It was built in 1500 on a design by the Florentine architect Antonio da Sangallo the Younger who was commissioned by the Orsini to strengthen the defenses of Pitigliano, the capital of their county.
In particular, Sangallo worked on the mighty bastions that in the south-eastern part of the village would have better defended the fortress.
In one of these bastions this deep door was opened with a round arch, surrounded by a travertine ashlar, which on the outside is also surmounted by the Ursine emblem.
