L'immagine qui venerata della Beata Vergine Maria è stata posta nella chiesa già dal 1527 quando per grazia di Dio salvò Bologna dalla peste che decimo' la popolazione della città. Il tutolo di Beata Vergine del Soccorso è tutt'oggi pregato nel santuario a chi vi ricorre.
It is one of the three sanctuaries of Bologna. The image venerated here of the Blessed Virgin Mary was placed in the church as early as 1527 when by the grace of God he saved Bologna from the plague that decimated the city's population. The cob of Beata Vergine del Soccorso is still prayed today in the sanctuary to those who use it.

All’inizio di Agosto 2020 è stato commissionato il nuovo dipinto della liberazione dalla peste avvenuta a Bologna nel 1527 per intercessione della Beata Vergine del Soccorso. L'opera ha riempito il ‘vuoto’ dovuto alla
mancanza nel santuario di rappresentazioni pittoriche dell’evento che ha rappresentato il motivo della fondazione circa cinque secoli orsono.
Per il giorno 8 Dicembre prossimo dopo la s. Messa dell’Immacolata, alle 19,30 circa si propone una presentazione del dipinto tra informazioni storiche e curiosità sull'evento.
Al termine della serata il “Gruppo vocale Heinrich Schutz” diretto da Roberto Bonato, che animerà anche i canti della liturgia dell’Immacolata, intonerà il canto Stabat Mater dolorosa di Franchino Gaffurio (1451-1522) per soli e coro a 4 voci, dalla famosa sequenza poetica musicale liturgica di Jacopone da Todi, collegata al dipinto e alla peste del 1527.
THE PAINTING OF THE CANTORY: GIFT FOR THE SANCTUARY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN OF AID
At the beginning of August 2020 the new painting of the liberation from the plague which took place in Bologna in 1527 through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin of Help was commissioned. The work filled the 'void' due to
lack in the sanctuary of pictorial representations of the event that was the reason for the foundation about five centuries ago.
For the day 8 December next after the s. Mass of the Immaculate Conception, at around 7.30 pm a presentation of the painting is proposed between historical information and curiosities about the event.
At the end of the evening the "Heinrich Schutz Vocal Group" directed by Roberto Bonato, who will also animate the chants of the liturgy of the Immaculate Conception, will sing the Stabat Mater dolorosa by Franchino Gaffurio (1451-1522) for solos and 4-voice choir, from famous liturgical musical poetic sequence by Jacopone da Todi, connected to the painting and the plague of 1527.
