Il palazzo ricorda la prematura scomparsa di Beatrice Cenci, condannata a morte e decapitata insieme alla matrigna sul Ponte Sant'Angelo nel 1599 con l'accusa di aver ucciso il padre incestuoso. La storia e' stata immortalata dal celebre poeta Percy Bysshe Shelley e nel museo di Palazzo Barberini si trova un ritratto della sventurata Beatrice attribuito a Guido Reni..
Immediately in Via Portico d'Ottavia, piazza delle Cinque Scole takes its name from the building that housed the synagogues of each of the five groups of Jews present in Rome during the period in which the Ghetto stood. The building commemorates the untimely death of Beatrice Cenci, sentenced to death and beheaded together with her stepmother on the Ponte Sant'Angelo in 1599, accused of having killed her incestuous father. The story was immortalized by the famous poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and in the museum of Palazzo Barberini there is a portrait of the unfortunate Beatrice attributed to Guido Reni.
