Lovely facilities, very authentic, well and traditionally appointed. Good selection of local food for breakfast. Ideally situated in the old town. Very friendly staff. Excellent facilities for spa etc.

Stayed 3 nights, loved the hotel and the thermale. So nice to wake up in the middle of the Sassi. The staff were friendly and helpful - the guy on reception even loaned us his own umbrella as we ran out to get dinner. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Pretty good hotel. Nice and luxurious breakfast. Very special rooms some with real cave in it. The only negative is the Spa/Sauna. It’s not very well maintained, the Hamam ceiling is made of wood and filthy, the sauna tiny. Pool is ok. But 20€/person for 2h in this mediocre spa is overpriced.

First of all, don’t get me wrong : it is a nice hotel. Price for money is insanely good. But actually with a service a little more guest-friendly , the whole hotel could be even better. Let me walk you through what was great and what wasn’t. Great - Location is outrageously perfect: in the very heart of Matera. - Our room was nice: nice decor, nice bed, big in size, private entrance, private terrace with a view. The hotel is in fact a combination of real authentic caves - each room being a private cave. Perfect privacy, good renovation. - Breakfast was just AMAZING. Italian perfection. Not that great - The biggest low is definitely the parking. Things were initially quite smooth : we were given an address for a parking near the hotel. We went there and park. The parking overcharged us with 5€ (25€ instead of 20€ for the night) which is obviously not professional - but we are tourists in South of Italy so why not. The real problem was the access to the hotel with our 30 kg luggages: 10 minutes walk in slippery stairs, a total nightmare. And the problem here aren’t the stairs, it’s that nobody actually told us about them so we didn’t organize accordingly (small backpacks for example). Second parking problem, when we check out staff actually told us our car was moved and not in the parking anymore. Nobody actually asked us about moving the car or anything. It was a total surprise. We had to take a transfer from the hotel to the new parking location. Transfer was a group thing and absolutely uncomfortable so definitely not a nice additional touch to the whole parking experience. - A little disappointment in our room: our shower was actually very small (my 18 sq m student apartment one was bigger fyi) even if the room was actually super big (30 sq m at least). - We did go for the spa experience. High expectations there since it wasn’t included in the room price (20€ per person). Well the cave pool did deliver: very big, very nicely done. The rest of it wasn’t that nice. The whole experience is about traditional roman therme (different temperatures rooms and pools). It’s actually not really that because in traditional therme you would have several pools at different temperatures. There was only one pool and then rooms where the air was at different temperatures. In addition, we didn’t go for the hammam since the smell was awful (hot mold...). Sauna was okay but small and with nothing special - didn't seem so logical in the whole therme thing though. - For our check-in, we had one member of the staff that clearly was under-trained. We told him we payed the hotel in advance by wire transfer three times (we were asked by email to do so). Checking out the next day, the staff recharged our credit card. The morning team hasn’t been told about the wire transfer (communication issue). Their reaction though was super professional so not a big deal (immediate card reimbursement).

Stunning accommodation in the beautiful town of Matera. Friendly service, well designed and decorated rooms. We were accommodated in the cave suite apartment which although was large in size felt cosy and warm. It was a short walk to the main hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable and it included all ammenities to ensure a comfortable stay. The breakfast was well catered and the pianist playing gave it a special ambience. Highly recommended.

Great place, super pool and friendly stuff, but you pay 200 euro and can't sleep because the dog of the neighbour barks all night long. The problem is known yet it is still there. A hotel is made to sleep, if you can't sleep, why going there???

Tricky to find the first time (in the Sassi down the stairs from the piano), but just a quick five minute walk from parking. Fantastic views. Rooms are scattered, but a small elevator is helpful. Rooms are air conditioned well with good wifi. Decor is reminiscent of a botique hotel. The pool is located in a cave and is stunning, but costs an extra 10 EUR to use. Terrific breakfasts. No room service or convenience shop here. Overall a great way to enhance your experience of visiting Matera by staying in the Sassi.

Had a single room and it was perfect for a short trip to Matera. The the sassi area and you must park outside the city (I stayed in a garage) and walk down. The staff was really friendly. The room was really nice and clean and interesting. Breakfast was one of the best I have ever had at a hotel even during covid which is impressive. The pool was able to be used for a few of 10€ (for like 1-1.5 hour period) during Covid times. I went at 0800 when it opened and there were only 3 of us. I will be returning to this hotel if I return to Matera for sure
