Hotel Continental Mare

Excellent as ever, even though it has rained today (first time since February) . Staff are brilliant and have kept their sense of humour. I love this place.

The peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. The two pools and sea platform. The breakfast and the views. My 6 night stay with my daughter was the perfect holiday for recharging the batteries!

Terrible experience. Booked and paid deposit one month in advance for a seaview room, turned up at hotel after carrying my own lugguage hundreds of flights of stairs down to be shown a dingy room with no seaview or sunlight. The room smelled strongly of carpet. Receptionist does not say anything until we approach them about the room booking at which point she nonchanantly says she does not have anymore seaview rooms, that she ask the manager and try to negotiate the room fare lower. Not the best response after a 14 hour flight then a ferry, after travelling all the way from Asia. Manager turns up, does not apologise and tells us sometimes their other guests are not fussy and dont mind not getting seaview room. At this point Ive had enough and jumped on google and booked the hotel next door. I ask the manager to print me a statement to say that we did not stay at the room and will not be charged for the night at which point he asks where can I go, and I responded the hotel next door. At this point he smiles and mocks me by saying “ah you must have paid a more expensive price than our rate”. ....the nerve on this guy.... I replied you really should be paying me the difference. At this point he stops smiling. He provides an explanation that sometimes guests turns up to the hotel and pays for an upgrade which meant my seaview room was taken by another guest who checked in earlier than me. What a joke.

Very enjoyable experience. Food good, staff very helpful. Only one thing to change was the balcony was very small. All in all a very nice clean relaxed hotel. Would definitely return. ?

My daughter and I spent 5 nights in this wonderful hotel. We had a room at the pool with a lovely see view when you walked out of the door. The staff were so friendly and not to mention the staff at the reception desk. The manager was very helpful and friendly and is there just about all the time!!!Thanks to them we discovered great places to go to and real local eating spots.Not touristy at all.Loved using the local busses. Was one of my best stays ever. Thank you Hotel Continental and staff

This beautiful, beautifully located, beautifully staffed hotel is simply - (you've guessed it) beautiful! We enjoyed every single minute of our stay here in 2014. The rooms are a wee bit small but not too small. The food was great and the elegant feel to the hotel was complemented by the best waiters in the world :) This is a great place for spending a romantic holiday with someone you truly love. Don't forget to take suitable evening dress for the evening meals (casual elegant).

Beautiful location, looking over the sea. Friendly quiet hotel. Some rooms have been upgraded, some are quite tired, but very cosy and full of character. There are plenty of sunbeds and seating areas for everyone. The gardens are pretty and well maintained. It is very steep, and people with mobility problems would struggle not just at the hotel, but the whole island.

Pretty conflicted about our stay there. We were the only young couple (late 20s) surrounded by Germans in their 60s. Our first room we had was a bit dirty (hair on the floor) but the staff was quick to clean it once it was pointed out. Scooters cost 10-15€ more per day at 35€ if rented from the hotel (avg was 20-25€). The view itself is pretty nice and we really liked the second pool which was almost always empty and got sun the whole day. They have this little floating dock on the ocean which is nice for the first couple hours in the morning but then completely in the shade for the rest of the day. The hotel and cleaning staff was pretty nice but the kitchen/restaurant was an absolute nightmare. Zero choices for vegans, highly limited for vegetarians. Zero flexibility when it comes to just ordering a simple Salat. "we have to order it 1 day in advance". Their snack menu consisted of frozen pizza and fruits. We also received a lot of snarky comments for borrowing a knife to cut our take away pizza. They really hated it that we didn't eat at their overpriced restaurant. Breakfast was only open till 10am, so already nice and stressful to make it there by 9.30 (vacation right?). Makes sense though to have the breakfast start at 7 if 80% of your hotel guests are over 50. Options were OK. Classical continental stuff. Our second room was amazing with view from the balcony, but also quite expensive. The beach options are not great compared to what Forio has to offer (our favorite was cava de Isola). So if you are a younger couple that wants to sleep in for breakfast, prefers to have a nice beach close by and enjoys vegetarian food, maybe stay away from this one.
