The Montagna Spaccata is certainly one of the most evocative places of Gaeta. Overall so called there is the Sanctuary of the SS. Trinity, eleventh century, here many popes prayed, including Pius IX, sovereigns, bishops and saints, including Bernardino da Siena, Ignatius of Loyola, Leonardo da Porto Maurizio and San Filippo Neri.
Legend has it that St. Philip Neri had lived inside the Montagna Spaccata where there is a stone bed still known today as "The bed of San Filippo Neri". Alongside the "Grotta del Turco", connected both to an ancient religious tradition according to which it came to light at the time of Christ's death, when the veil of the temple of Jerusalem was torn, and to different popular beliefs. Among these, there would be the imprint of the hand of a Turkish sailor on a rock.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great place for visit. Actually there are two places here. 1 is most popular, but 2 also remarkable near the see light. To reach the place take straight after main entrance, left side, go to small chapel, and on the left side there is stairway down. You will find another great place!
