★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A terrible experience For breakfast I lay down in a hammock to work while my husband did the same at the breakfast table, when a worker starts screaming from the dining room, addressing me, until he came to my side shouting at me, that I could not lie down that hammock because it was reserved (I did not put it anywhere) I tell him to stop screaming, he kept shouting and pulling the towel that was under me to get up from the hammock. All the clients watching as this man shouted at me furiously to continue shouting at me, and to speak to me with a very threatening tone. My husband when he saw him from the dining room and saw that the screams were to me he got up demanding him to take care of his ways. We went to the reception, (I was shocked and crying) to tell what had happened when a worker said that she had seen him and was not so aggressive, so I asked the manager of the reception to accompany me to look for a witness and as soon as we went out into the garden, several guests said they had witnessed it, and an older lady said that it had been terrible, and super rude. That he did not justify his attitude at all. We called booking to cancel the stay because we wanted to leave that hotel immediately, and they solved everything, canceled the next night and we were able to find another hotel where they can treat their clients and make us enjoy the stay.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 2nd visit and the staff looked after us. Christine Angela, Elizabet, and Lucretia on the front desk. Aramis and all the resteraunt staff. Lake view room was divine particularly after a noisy neighbour made us move rooms. Nothing too much trouble and of course the location on Como is superb

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We visited only the restaurant: we took the menu. The starting buffet was delicious and great, so were the first course. Unfortunatelly it was downhill after that. The chicken my girlfriend had was dry, and my fish was very tasteless. Dessert was okay-ish. The place itself was very nice and the waitors were really polite and nice.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not sure how this hotel warrants 4*. It is in a lovely position and has character but it simply lacks that quality to be 4* in today's world. The bar next door (at the ferry terminal) can be noisy into the early hours of next morning. With the large numbers on coach tours staying there, you have people going out early, the dining is rushed with the staff under pressure to get everyone through. Rooms are dated, needing decoration and certainly maintenance - in bathroom and to electrics. Staff are polite but simply it does not have the standards we expected especially when compared to the other hotels we stayed in on the Italian Lakes. Food OK but not outstanding. Nothing to do in the evenings as bar closes early (when we were there) - fortunately, good bars at other hotels in the town.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Flew to Malpensa with BA and met by a car which we asked the hotel to arrange. All went well. Hotel reception very good, porters helpful and the lady who cleaned our room was very good. The staff in the restaurant were smart and professional. The food was very good and well prepared and presented. We would have liked to have seen a wider variety of hot food at breakfast as this was restricted to scrambled egg and crispy bacon. Whilst we were there the hotel was full and in the evening you may have to wait for a table to become available. There are all the facilities that you would need at the hotel and it is well positioned for the ferry to various other places around the lake. The hotel will offer various trips if these are required and we did use them for this. We were not on a package tour so we were able to book exactly what we required and can recommend room 107 which is overlooking the lake and has a good sized balcony.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Grand Hotel Menaggio is a beauty at the western side of lake como. It is perfectly situated in the wonderful city of Menaggio and only a few minutes away from Tremezzo. The view from the hotel terrace, where they also serve breakfast and as well as drinks and snacks during the day, is absolutely stunning. Besides, the service of the hotel offers everything you would expect from a Grand Hotel. I will definately come back here!
