★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Fonte del Leone si trova nel largo fra via Sant’Andrea e Cesare Battisti, la Fonte di Lavagine, detta anche Del Leone o Barberina, era utilizzata dalle lavandaie e dalla gente della contrada. La monumentalità della fontana risale all’inizio del XVIII secolo, quando il Cardinale Annibale Albani fece erigere contro il terrapieno dell’attuale Orto Botanico la facciata in bugnato composta da tre nicchie. Quella centrale ospita una copia della statua delle Barberina, il cui originale è custodito nel Palazzo ducale.
The Fonte del Leone is located in the open space between Via Sant’Andrea and Cesare Battisti, the Fonte di Lavagine, also known as Del Leone or Barberina, was used by the washerwomen and the people of the district. The monumentality of the fountain dates back to the early 18th century, when Cardinal Annibale Albani had the ashlar facade made up of three niches erected against the embankment of the current Botanical Garden. The central one houses a copy of the Barberina statue, the original of which is kept in the Doge's Palace.
