Interessante sia la città ma anche il castello rimarrete meravigliati dal museo all interno del castello...Splendido e il sarcofago di una donna romana. Merita una visita.. Beautiful .. ancient walls and gate of old Melfi, the favorite of Federico di Svevia ... the turreted walls were the city walls .. now it remains the only stretch. Interesting both the city but also the castle you will be amazed by the museum inside the castle ... Splendid and the sarcophagus of a Roman woman. Worth a visit ..

C	Carmela Papappicco on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La città di Melfi, è circondata da una Cinta Muraria, ancora quasi tutta integra, e una delle più importanti dell'Italia Meridionale! Nel corso dei secoli, la città, è stata sottoposta a numerosi ampliamenti, sin dall'età bizantina, e l'intero perimetro della fortificazione, ha così subito importanti modificazioni! Nei XV secolo, la Cinta Muraria, edificata anche per volontà dell'imperatore Federico Ii, e degli Angioini, fu ulteriormente fortificata, per renderla più resistente alle nuove armi da fuoco, come le bombardér, e le mine! A dare esempio di ciò, basti percorrere via Federico II, per ammirare i possenti bastioni cilindrici, e le doppie mura, ancora intatte, seppur annerite dal tempo e dai secoli ormai trascorsi! E fra queste possenti mura, si apre l'unica Porta ancora visibile, della città : la Porta Venusina, restaurata da Giovanni Caracciolo, il quale, vi fece apporre i suoi stemmi, e una lapide commemorativa dell'imperatore Federico II. E ancor oggi, nel tempo, questa Porta, conserva il suo fascino, e la sua supremazia sulla città : fra i suoi massi, la sua Storia, è tutta immutata, là! The city of Melfi is surrounded by a wall, still almost entirely intact, and one of the most important in Southern Italy! Over the centuries, the city has undergone numerous extensions, since the Byzantine age, and the entire perimeter of the fortification has thus undergone important changes! In the 15th century, the city walls, also built by the will of Emperor Frederick II, and of the Angevins, were further fortified, to make it more resistant to new firearms, such as bombardér, and mines! To give an example of this, just walk along via Federico II, to admire the mighty cylindrical bastions, and the double walls, still intact, albeit blackened by time and centuries now passed! And between these mighty walls, there is the only still visible door of the city: the Porta Venusina, restored by Giovanni Caracciolo, who had his coats of arms affixed to it, and a commemorative plaque of Emperor Frederick II. And even today, over time, this gate retains its charm, and its supremacy over the city: among its boulders, its history is all unchanged there!

F	Franco Biancardi on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Forma parte de una de las puertas de entrada al centro histórico de la ciudad, de la cual solo quedan restos de esa gran muralla y entre ellas este icono de Melfi que se mantiene en pie tras varios siglos después de construída.

Se si riesce ad ignorare per un attimo le centinaia di auto che debbono per forza entrare nel centro storico, sembra di ritornare al passato. Questo sarebbe un angolo favoloso da valorizzare con zone pedonali e caffè all'aperto; magari quando una nuova generazione avrà preso in mano l'amministrazione cittadina. Beautiful structure and well inserted in the square and park that surround it. If you can ignore for a moment the hundreds of cars that must necessarily enter the historic center, it seems to go back to the past. This would be a fabulous corner to enhance with pedestrian areas and outdoor cafes; maybe when a new generation has taken over the city administration.
