★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Su ogni piazza antistante le chiese di Assisi vi è una fontana più o meno grande, che serviva a dare ristoro, purificare, lavare e preparare all'ingresso alle chiese, ai pellegrini giunti da ogni parte del pianeta. Piazza San Rufino, oltre che la fontana sullo stesso lato verso la Chiesa ha l'ingresso della casa natale di Santa Chiara. Sia la Santa che San Francesco furono battezzati nella cattedrale. Tutt'oggi proprio nella cattedrale è custodita la fonte battesimale originale, oggetto di pellegrinaggio anche dei Papi.
On each square in front of the churches of Assisi there is a more or less large fountain, which was used to provide refreshment, purify, wash and prepare pilgrims from all over the planet at the entrance to the churches. Piazza San Rufino, as well as the fountain on the same side towards the Church has the entrance to the birthplace of Santa Chiara. Both the Saint and Saint Francis were baptized in the cathedral. Even today the original baptismal font is kept in the cathedral, also the object of pilgrimage by the Popes.

A great building and an old source of water for the townspeople. It is located in Piazza San Rufino, a wall-mounted fountain with a rectangular travertine pool. It has eight sections with six lava throats. This is not the fountain that around 1035 was once the centerpiece of the cathedral square.
