S	Stefano Bucciarelli on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Allora… La fontana appare per quel che è: trascurata, senza gli spruzzi e senza onore, ridotta a spartitraffico, bivacco di turisti e paninari. Invece, ai tempi del porto fluviale, brulicava di vita, un po’ come oggi, ma senza i cialtroni, le macchine e lo smog. Dalle bocche dei delfini fuoriusciva l’acqua e fungeva da abbeveratoio per gli animali da soma utilizzati per il trasporto delle mercanzie. Poi, per ovviare alle frequenti piene del fiume, verso la fine dell’Ottocento il porto fu smantellato, con l'allargamento degli argini del Tevere e la costruzione dei muraglioni. Anche la fontana venne smontata e, solo molti anni più tardi, collocata nella posizione attuale. Si presenta con una vasca ovale che contiene al suo interno una tinozza a bordi rialzati, mentre al centro è situato uno scoglio con due delfini dalle code incrociate e una valva di conchiglia. Alla sommità è collocata una stella in ferro a otto punte, simbolo araldico del papa Clemente XI, committente dell’opera. It has an oval basin that contains a tub with raised edges, while in the center there is a rock with two crossed-tailed dolphins and a shell valve. At the top there is an eight-pointed iron star, the heraldic symbol of Pope Clement XI, who commissioned the work.
