Questa fontana ormai estremamente usurata dal tempo, rappresenta comunque un importante punto di riferimento storico dell'epoca. Bello il contesto in cui è inserita. A	Andrea Remine on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La fontana, originariamente in Via di Panico (n. civ. 62), da circa sessant’anni adorna la facciata del convento annesso alla chiesa di San Salvatore in Lauro. È costituita da una nicchia riproducente una grotta, inquadrata da due pilastrini architravati. Al centro fuoriesce una testa di leone in marmo bianco dalla cui bocca sgorga l’acqua che si raccoglie nella sottostante vaschetta marmorea. Al di sopra si trova un lapide in distici latini, datata 1579, nella quale si paragona al lupo del Campo Marzio, più mansueto di un agnello, il leone, più mite di un capretto e dalla cui bocca esce la limpida acqua vergine. Entrambi gli animali sono resi mansueti dal pio drago, ossia da Gregorio XIII Boncompagni (1572-1585), regnante in quel periodo, il cui stemma una volta compariva al di sopra dell’epigrafe. Per quanto riguarda il lupo "del Campo Marzio" si fa riferimento ad un’altra epigrafe, datata 1578, un tempo collocata sopra una fontanina raffigurante un lupo, oggi perduta, situata appunto in Campo Marzio, in Via della Lupa. Attualmente questa epigrafe si trova all’interno di un palazzo al n. 7 di Via dei Prefetti. The fountain, originally in Via di Panico (n. Civ. 62), has been adorning the facade of the convent attached to the church of San Salvatore in Lauro for about sixty years. Un tempo si trovava a via panico, ma con le demolizioni degli anni 20 del secolo scorso, fu trasportata nella posizione attuale. La fontana vera e propria è abbastanza semplice, si trova incassata nel muro del palazzo e ha una forma di grotta, ornata da una sorta di cornice (senza la base), nella parte inferiore è presente un animale molto deteriorato (che la storia vuole che sia un leone) dalla cui bocca da una cannella fuoriesce l’acqua verso il semplice bacino semicircolare a bordo rialzato, presente a fior di terra. Al di sopra appoggiata nella parte superiore della cornice, è presente una targa del 1579, con l’iscrizione in latino. Molte, infatti, hanno subito lo smacco del trasferimento di sede, e se per alcune il trasloco ha comportato una più nobile collocazione, per altre è vero il contrario. È il caso di questa piccola sorgente appoggiata alla parete del Palazzo dei Piceni, in San Salvatore in Lauro, che, per dirla tutta, non brilla affatto per bellezza, anzi, è proprio mal conservata. Un semplice grottino a scogliera, che forma una nicchia sulla parete, circoscritta da due pilastrini, al centro del quale si trova una testa informe dalla cui bocca esce un filo d’acqua, che cade in una piccola vasca incassata al suolo, destinata, in virtù di questa posizione, a dissetare solo cani e gatti.
