(WATCH OUT β€” WRONG LOCATION ON MAP. Entrance is from the Via della Domus Aurea.) Absolutely incredible spaces but oh heavens, the tour!! There’s a great welcome video that gives lots of information with great visuals. At that point, guides should either give a quick tour through the villa, allowing visitors to feel the power and majesty of this millennia-old buried villa, OR they should go through more slowly, using visual aids like iPads or printed posters to help guests envision what it might have looked like in Nero’s time. Instead, our guide tried to explain at great length, in words, how this wall here related to the east courtyard, and what that floor might have looked like, and how this area was a mirror image of this other, and on and on. It was as tedious as it was absurd β€” because we knew from the opening video that wonderful reconstructions have been made, which would be so much better than verbal description and so much more meaningful seen in the actual space! Maybe put this lower down on your list until they figure out a better experience.

Wonderful experience!!! Must to do if you are Roman art&history Lover! Raffaello & Domus Aurea exhibition. I saw the Domus Aurea for 2nd time after 6 years, they made huge works, such as archeology digs and restorations, Virtual reality that i had chance to see this time was amazing! Cause you can feel and see how it was with Introductions and stories and finally in the Ocatagonal room with lights. Our Italian Guide was MS. ELENA (ARCHEOLOGIST) she was so kind, well informed and profesional in museum guiding. Thanks Coop cluture and Archeology park of Colosseo for this Exhibition. See you again

This site ought not to be open during the week. They don’t let you see anything due to ongoing archaeology work. Most disappointing is that the virtual reality experience is still closed due to Covid. Everything you read that makes this site sound cool wasn’t on offer. Don’t waste your money on this right now.

Map location is way off! There’s a large iron gate across the street from the northeast corner of the colosseum that leads uphill into the park (via della Domus Aurea is the street name). Walk up about 1 minute and the entrance is on the left. This is quite a small ruin, and the art exhibition was neat but I couldn’t quite make the connection between the exhibit and the history of the ruin (there’s little interpretive material about the rooms themselves). I was more interested in learning about Nero and what these rooms were for, so I was a bit disappointed.

Please note: that because of Covid, we paid full price for the ticket but didn’t get the VR experience. However it still is a very lovely experience, it’s really neat to see how everything is hidden in there. The tours are only in English and Italian.

The exhibition they have right now is SO COOL. There’s visual/audio recreations of some of the frescos and history of the place, and I had such a nice experience. Our tour guide was so kind and helpful. She lead us through the whole thing and gave us time to play some of the games in the exhibit and waited for us to look at stuff on our own. We went early in the morning on a Tuesday so it was just three of us on the tour. 5/5 I really enjoyed this!

Very nice. Be aware when booking tickets online that there is an English and an Italian guided tour. Don't pick the wrong one. Next the Google directions sent me on a wild goose chaise. Coming from Collosium, even before you start going uphill on via Nicola salvi notice the large gate, across the street to the right, walk through it, up the road 20 yard or so and first left. Remember once you enter the Domus area...the temperature drops hire dramatically. That's great in the summer but during the winter it may be a problem. The tour is a bit fast paced, and the guides English is sometimes difficult to understand, specially with masks on...but the effort is appreciated.
