β β β β β This is one of the oldest churches in Rome, with a cloister courtyard and excavations underground to make it even more interesting. There is a beautiful frescoe, for a long time believed to be from Masaccio, the typical byzantine stone floor, a byzantine mosaic and many other impressive elements. Located close to the Colosseum it is easy accessible. The entrance to the archaeological site is payable, but the visit of the church is free of charge

β β β β β The church on street level is ok, but the real draw is the ancient basilica and Roman ruins that lie beneath. Very cool to explore. Worth the price of admission, make sure you get there in the morning since they closer at 12:30.

β β β β β At first sight the Basilica of San Clemente looks like any other chruch in Rome. However, inside there are numerous and unimaginable treasures. The small temple is amazingly and beautofully decorated twelth-century mosaics. San Clemente is a unique attraction, definitely worth visiting. We were lucky to have been able to visit, I am humbled by this experience

β β β β β We had tickets booked in advance, although there wasn't a big crowd at 10 am. The church is free but tickets are needed to visit the excavations, which was worth it!

β β β β β A unique experience going back to ancient times where you have 3 levels of unique history laying on top of each other.
The temple of Mithras, a Roman Villa anf on top of it all the St Clemens church.

β β β β β Early Roman church, with fantastic Byzantine mosaics at the alter and flooring. Connection with British couple, Ramsdan. Small chapel with beautiful fresco of the crucifixion of Christ. Admission is free, separate fee to see the archeological excavation site below the church. It's one of the prime Roman destination of pilgrims from Czechia.

β β β β β Beautiful Basilica that deserves love and pilgrimage from those of the faith. One of the highlights is one of the very, very few medieval mosaics over the altar. Furthermore, the basilica hosts a catacomb of sorts where Christens in fact worshiped the faith in secret as the Roman empire had made it illegal. If you are one of the faithful visits this basilica as you will be able to learn more about its origins and what life was like when the faith was banned.
