★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La zona di Pizzone è stata certamente abitata fin dal periodo neolitico. Ciò è testimoniato da una serie di lame litiche ritrovate nel suo agro e attualmente custodite in un museo di Campobasso.
Lo sperone roccioso di Pizzone era infatti posto a cavallo di un'antichissima arteria stradale che attraversava la catena montuosa delle Mainarde. Durante il periodo sannita tale via assunse ulteriore importanza collegando commercialmente e militarmente i touti separati da questi monti. La strada infatti, toccando San Vito di Colli, Cerro, e attraversando il valico di San Francesco, giungeva sino ad Aufidena, attuale Alfedena. Certamente la via fu percorsa dagli eserciti romani durante le guerre sannitiche del IV secolo a.C.
Potrebbe trattarsi dell'antichissimo sistema viario sannita denominato via Numicia o Minucia tra Aufidena ed Aesernia, di cui si conservano alcuni tratti selciati a monte di Alfedena verso il valico del Calvario o di San Francesco.
Anche nel caso di Pizzone, come per gli altri borghi della valle, le prime notizie storiche si devono al Chronicon Volturnense.Fonte Wikipedia
The Pizzone area has certainly been inhabited since the Neolithic period. This is evidenced by a series of lithic blades found in its countryside and currently kept in a museum in Campobasso.
The rocky spur of Pizzone was in fact placed astride an ancient road artery that crossed the mountainous chain of the Mainarde. During the Samnite period this road assumed further importance by connecting commercially and militarily the Touti separated from these mountains. In fact, the road, touching San Vito di Colli, Cerro, and crossing the San Francesco pass, reached Aufidena, now Alfedena. Certainly the road was traveled by the Roman armies during the Samnite wars of the 4th century BC.
It could be the very ancient Samnite road system called via Numicia or Minucia between Aufidena and Aesernia, of which some paved sections are preserved upstream of Alfedena towards the Calvario or San Francesco pass.
Even in the case of Pizzone, as for the other villages in the valley, the first historical information is due to the Chronicon Volturnense.

Da qui è possibile imboccare molti sentieri riconosciuti dal CAI di bassa/media difficoltà...
Da vedere il 6 gennaio la rappresentazione del presepe vivente, e durante l'anno il museo dell'orso.
