Going for a stroll, aimlessly, for the Venetian streets, it may happen that San Zan Degola emerges in the field (for the curious "degolà" means beheaded). There an ancient church was given by the Venetian lordship to the Orthodox cult. Two cultures meet: Venetian paintings stand alongside iconic Orthodox paintings.

Divine grace to visit our churches in Venice. In the words of the Internet - I highly recommend it! Invest in the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, they have been guarding Venice since 1099. The relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker have been stored in Venice on the island of Lido since 1099. The “Venetian part” of the relics of the saint is the part that the Barians did not have time to take in a hurry during the capture of the main part of the relics from the Lycian World in 1087. These were the Crusades of the Western rulers against the Saracens. *** see dr.foto

Ancient church but remodeled over time. Pieces of frescos from the 12th century and earlier still exist in the chapels beside the high altar. Now in use by the Russian Orthodox community it is open only during functions, or by prior arrangement.

A very old Venetian Catholic church, transferred to the management of the local Orthodox community. I managed to visit on Tuesday at about 11. I was very glad to meet the rector, Father George, who told about the temple, which is interesting and beautiful in itself and contains shrines that are very significant for Orthodox people. If you have the opportunity, be sure to visit.

Until its suppression, the church was a collegiate church, therefore it had a chapter made up of a priest, a deacon and a sub-deacon. Initially the canons collaborated together on all administrative matters of the parish; subsequently each had its own duties (the parish priest, in particular, was assigned the care of souls and the administration of the sacraments), but this also caused the decline of the spirit of sharing, of the obligations of community life and, in general, of co-responsibility in the care of the circumscription. The church is now the seat of the Russian Orthodox Christian community of Venice, named after the Holy Women Mirofore, and the liturgies are held regularly every week.
