On a very populated path, the church is OK on the inside.

A beautiful 16th century church in the Cannaregio district. Rebuilt on an older church, San Felice retains some original elements in its decor. The β€œtrue” faΓ§ade of the church is best appreciated from the nearby bridge on the Rio de San Felice and is a wonderful example of Mannerist architecture.

Beautiful church. The interior with its simplicity provides all the necessary peace. It is located in the sestiere of Cannaregio. It faces the eponymous campo, across the Strada Nova. The foundation of the church dates back to the tenth century, by the will of the Gallina family who resided there. It was re-consecrated on 15 July 1267 by the bishop of Caorle Marino because it was deeply modified. A first modification took place around the middle of the 13th century, but in 1531 it was completely rebuilt following the forms of the Venetian Renaissance of Codussi, also changing its orientation. The main facade is divided into three parts by pilasters with Corinthian-style capitals. The plan of the church is a variant of the elongated Greek cross type with a central dome, around, between the arches, the side aisles open. Almost completely stripped by Napoleon army in the 19th century, it is now internally white, adorned with neoclassical altars of Greek marble. Some canvases including the main altarpiece were saved from stripping. The best known work is a small altarpiece by Tintoretto depicting St. Demetrius and a crucifix attributed to Andrea Brustolon. An inscription in the interior recalls the baptism of Carlo Rezzonico, future Pope Clement XIII, occurred here on 29 March 1693.
