★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Questa chiesa é conosciuta come Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli o dei Cappuccini.
Il convento (1575) dei frati cappuccini fu voluto da Caterina Barresi. Accanto vi sorgeva una piccola chiesa che fu ricostruita nel 1582.....vi si conserva uno straordinario altare maggiore in legno che fa da cornice alla magnifica pala di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Santi dipinta nel 1612 da Filippo Paladini.
Sopravvisse al terremoto del 1693 e finita di restaurare nel1709.
Fino agli anni 80 del XX sec. il convento era abitato dai frati cappuccini.
Oggi i frati cappuccini di Augusta vengono a celebrare la Messa una volta al mese.
Molto pregevole è la biblioteca del convento, dei paliotti in cuoio dipinto e dorato (custoditi presso il Museo dei Cappuccini di Caltagirone) ed altre opere d'arte.
Successivamente é stato dato in comodato d'uso ad un ente benefico.
This church is known as the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli or dei Cappuccini.
The convent (1575) of the Capuchin friars was commissioned by Caterina Barresi. Next to it there was a small church that was rebuilt in 1582 ..... there is an extraordinary high altar in wood which frames the magnificent altarpiece of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the Saints painted in 1612 by Filippo Paladini.
It survived the earthquake of 1693 and finished restoring in 1709.
Until the 80s of the XX century the convent was inhabited by the Capuchin friars.
Today the Capuchin friars of Augusta come to celebrate Mass once a month.
Very valuable is the library of the convent, the frontals in painted and gilded leather (kept in the Cappuccini Museum in Caltagirone) and other works of art.
Subsequently it was given on loan to a charity.
