o	olga lanza on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Si dice che le origini di questa chiesa risalgano alla dominazione bizantina in Sicilia (536 - 827 d.c). Dopo l' invasione dei Saraceni nell' 827 e la devastazione di questo "Tempio" il Conte Ruggero l d' Altavilla capo dei Normanni lo fece riedificare e lo riconsacro' al Vescovo di Bari. Il suo campanile "era il più bello che si vedesse allora in Sicilia". Il terremoto del 1693 distrusse completamente la Chiesa. 28 anni dopo, il 6 Dicembre 1721 fu posta la prima pietra per la ricostruzione del nuovo Tempio, completato il 20 Marzo 1740. La Chiesa fu arricchita e abbellita da varie opere di pregio realizzate da importanti artisti dell' epoca. Nel 1904 la struttura venne completata con la costruzione di una superba cupola che rappresento' la prima opera in cemento armato della Sicilia Orientale ed il suo progetto talmente straordinario ed innovativo fu premiato nel 1900 alla " Mostra Internazionale" di Torino. Negli anni ha avuto di vari lavori di ammodernamento. Nel 1981 nei sotterranei sono stati eseguiti lavori per ospitarvi un pregevole Museo d' arte sacra. Dopo il terremoto del 1990 l'edificio sacro è stato sottoposto a lavori di consolidamento. La sua festa si svolge il 18 Agosto. Il 28 Giugno 2002 e' stata inserita nella lista del Patrimonio UNESCO del Val di Noto. It is said that the origins of this church date back to the Byzantine rule in Sicily (536 - 827 dc). After the invasion of the Saracens in 827 and the devastation of this "Temple" the Count Roger of Altavilla, leader of the Normans, had it rebuilt and reconsecrated it to the Bishop of Bari. Its bell tower "was the most beautiful one you could see then in Sicily". The earthquake of 1693 completely destroyed the Church. 28 years later, on 6 December 1721 the first stone was laid for the reconstruction of the new Temple, completed on 20 March 1740. The Church was enriched and embellished by various valuable works realized by important artists of the time. In 1904 the structure was completed with the construction of a superb dome that represented the first reinforced concrete work in Eastern Sicily and its project so extraordinary and innovative was awarded in 1900 at the "Mostra Internazionale" in Turin. Over the years he has had various modernization jobs. In 1981 work was carried out in the basement to house a valuable Museum of sacred art. After the earthquake of 1990, the sacred building underwent consolidation work. His party takes place on August 18th. On June 28th 2002 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list of the Val di Noto.
